Sujet : 3D modelling

So, I've taken a recent interest in trying to model some characters in Zbrush (just did a Ratchet one, I want to try a Jak and Daxter one, Azimuth, Armoured Ratchet… etc :P). However, I wanted to try to model them close to the games.
How many polys are generally in character in a PS2 game, and a PS3 game? When I import my models into Maya, I think I have too many polys because it really lags up. I know there is no set amount of polys for a character, but what would you estimate to be a good range to stay in for each console?

Also, does anyone else have any 3D work? I'd love to see them!

I do a lot of 3D modeling myself (because I have to do it in college), i recently did a 3D model of my lombax OC Rex, and did a (rather crappy) animation with him (the animation was crappy coz 3Ds max had this feature that does the footsteps itself but does them VERY badly, especially for running)

The model can be found here: http://revanac.deviantart.com/art/Rex-3D-Model-206549942?q=gallery%3Arevanac&qo=3

As for the poly counts, Ratchet, for example, in the PS2 games his model had 6912 polygons, and in the PS3 games, it had 9435 polygons.
Maya lagging could be simply because you computer might not be able to handle it or not have enough RAM, or maybe the model does have too many polys :P

Hey Revan! You showed me that vid on MSN , hehe :P I think it's awesome! Inspired me to try to learn how to rig and animate in 3D.
I'm so glad you know the amount of polys! I definately had too many polys, I subdivided my mesh 5 times… I must've ended up in the hundred thousands. There were loads. O.o

I haven't mutch idea on this 3D character making stuff? But weren't there models of Ratchet in the ACiT IG Mueseum? And one from the PS2 was being comapered to PS3 Ratchet? I THINK they had some sort of Poly number or something? Dunno though?
