I think it might also be fun if they took a page out of LBPs book and made a map from another game. Such as Jak and Daxter.
I know very little about Nexus (and I don't want to know until I play it), but I could imagine it would have been a nice little taste of whats to come to sort of show off some of the elements found in Nexus in a FFA map based in a location from Nexus.
I also think more interactive maps would be fun. Here is a scenario:
Round 1: Your in a space station orbiting a jungle planet or something, the station is being attacked by an enemy ship currently latched onto the space station (the center of the map being where the ship and space station meet up).
Round 2: Another ship is coming at the space station with the latched on ship (which is also the same size of the space station so that it's not too unfair), and begins to launch rockets at the place (not even caring about the ship already docked with the station), throughout the round the place experiences quite a few explosions, and stuff starts to shut off and get blown off the station and ship.
Round 3: The station starts falling out of the sky and begins hurtling towards the planet, most of this match is going through the atmosphere of the planet, and as the assault phase ends it crashes to the ground.
Round 4: Its more or less the same as before, only your in a jungle.
Of course pices can scatter and stuff, but the nodes and bases would need to stay more or less in the same place… them again it might be fun to be able to turn on or off a feature to have the nodes break off as time goes on…
But for some reason this seems like one of those impossible ideas… if only FFA was made for PS4 :P
EDIT: starting to drift away from Christmas now aren't I?
