Sujet : What is Your Opinion About People Swearing?

Membre supprimé

Are you okay when you or someone else uses swears in a conversation?

Discuss about your thoughts in this topic.

For me it depends on the conversation I'm in, even though I like to keep it at a minimum. Sometimes too much swearing and use of slang terms can be so obnoxious and unprofessional. I get pretty uncomfortable when people use offensive words against race, sex, homosexuality and other meanings that can offend a certain individual. This entirely doesn't bug me too an extent, but I know it does for most people.

I think what I hate the most is when kids use bad languages. It's a shame that I've hear kids at a young age say things that they shouldn't say from my summer job at daycare last year or sometimes from my younger cousins. But then again, this is what happens when your family would slip cusses out while not realizing that there are children in the room.

Sure, I swear in frustrating cases and such, but not all the time.

As said, it depends on the conversation, but usually I think as long as it's not being said over and over again and repeatedly raping the English Language I think it's okay. I really do hate the average barely pre or post pubescent kiddo who has to use on about every 2 seconds.

Alas, I don't consider curse words as insults, there are a million other ways to do so than to use one, you don't have to be a Master at English though.

I never utter the slightest swear… Okay if you must inclued Crap, Damn & Shut up as swears then so be it. But i never say anything any worse than that… But if i say drop a rock or something on my foot or cut myself or something i get close to a swear… Like shoot, bugger & far… I never ever say the actual words! Dunno why? Guess my parents were able to control me good when i was younger! Because i have never ever really sworn!

As for other people… I do wish everyone could not swear so much… Keeping it down to 0 would be good… But that will never happen. I suppose i am getting use to peope swearing when they make a mistake or something & i guess that is alright… (but know it be bad emoji ) But people who swear at every possible chance and even when it is completely unnesasary like "F this F that you see that S… F F F F!". And because of school i must learn to live with it, because here only 1 in 100 doesent swear & 75 in every 100 will swear WAY over the top!

So my opinion is swearing= evil! On TV i dont mind however emoji (but small children swearing on TV not good… (unless it is a comedy emoji emoji )

I'm 16 and I "swear" like a mo- …well, you get the point. I just treat/use 'curse words' [as people call them] like any other word. I don't see why people [not referring to the previous comments] have to stereotype and generalize people who curse are bad persons. I curse SO much, I could make a sailer envy me. Yet, I have great morals and a lot of friends, mostly on PSN or LIVE, but you get the point. The same argument can be applied to atheism [not believing in any religion]. I'm an atheist. Unfortunately for me, I grew up in a Catholic neighborhood. A VERY Catholic neighborhood. Like all the generalizations you've heard of really dogmatic Catholics was true for this place. No joke. I was 10 at the time and I was being PERSECUTED against! I couldn't even go outside and play with some friends I wish I had because they were busy praying and "listening to the word of our Savior Jesus Christ", but even then our veiws on what 'fun' is was radically different. Gamestop or any other place that carried video games was about 5 [EXPLETIVE] miles away, which means I didn't have many games [had the first 3 Ratchet and Clanks though! {PS3 or 360 wasn't released at the time}]. Sorry I got off topic. I don't think cursing in any conversation should be seen with disapproval [unless people are calling other people names]. I mean no disrespect for people of faith.

Well that seem a bit off topic with the religion statement, but not by a long shot.

I understand what you mean just because I grew up in that environment too. My family are Catholic (but we don't practice the religion these days) and I had to be forced to go to a Catholic school. Even then, kids at my school were cursing like sailors. Although when I swore, I get in trouble. But when the other kids brought out a cuss or two, they get away with it. You might say that is one reason why I give kids lectures when they slip out a bad word, but at the same time I don't want kids from ages 2 to possibly 10 or 11 being exposed to saying the F word in public and think that it is okay to do so.

I especially find it annoyning when I see kids/tweens attempting to "look impressive" around people thinking their so mature from cursing all the time.

For me, it all depends on the word:
@$$, Crap (If that even cuts as a cuss word), $h!t, hell (I mean in the cursing context) or D@mn arent anything too bad for me
B!tch, b@$t@rd, F@g, (and all the women abusing slang words) okay starting to get a bit offensive
F*ck? only say it around my mom when i have to, but not often at all.
then theres the n word and the c word, with i will literally beat someone up for saying to a person.
Yeah, so, you know…..

Another thing: with the word hell, as many know, theres a few ways to use it
WORD WAY: "And the bad people go to Hell." meaning the place
CUSS WAY: "I hpe u feel like hell today" meaning your snapping at someone.
But i got in trouble for singing this:
"Come one down to the other side, come with us through the gates of Hell, we will drag you from where you are, to where you belong"
And i got in a fight with my DAD if it was a cuss word in that context or not. I said it wasnt, half the truth IMO, half to back up pendulum
But there's no backing them up when it comes to "The Tempest". XD
Is it used as a curse word in that verse..? emoji

hell? Ha ha ha! My country be diferent to you guys by a LONG shot! Hell is the least offensive thing ever here. You could say hell to anyone and no matter who they are they wouldnt care… You know it is quite funny that i dont swear given the family i grew up with and the people i am… WERE friends with. My mum… OH dear, now she swears so much! If you didnt hear her swearing there is something up? Something SERIOUS and i am not over reacting. She swears when she is happy & sad & angry… Well you get the idea, i have 2 brothers and a sister, and all three of them swear quite a bit (compared to me). y best friend from when i was 5 up until a year ago was a BIG swearer! Really big! And he had always known i never swear (about three years ago i woulnt even say 'crap' and he changed that) he tried to change that… And i did not swear no matter what?.. And this infuriated him, luckily he moved out of the country before he had the time to kill me emoji but that just show the weirdness of me emoji infact i am sure there be something wrong witn me, what with all the people swearing out there?.. Nah emoji

I agree.

I'd actually spotted teenagers acting immature like that at a busy plaza yesterday. I don't know who they were trying to impress, but threatening a friend to "bleep on their shoe" if they don't decide where they want to hang out aren't appealing conversation manners to me.

I don't mind it, but I prefer if people kept it out of conversation as much as possible.emoji

Agreed! I personally say things like Crap, Crud, Heck, and Screw. If anything else shows up in a conversation, I'll tolerate it, but I try to avoid using such language myself. :oui:

I don't mind it… just as long it's not directed at me!… But in NZ, we usually do tend to use swears as greetings… lol you must be thinking WTF… but it's kinda like that in NZ.. emoji Besides me.. I don't really tend to swear, the closest I've gotten with swear words are like.. crap… hell, damn and bugger!

I don't usually have anything against a swear word or two in an appropriate situation, but I don't like it when they are used like commas (there are people who really do so). As swearing is pretty common here, occasional f-words (or actually c-words, but they are used in a similar manner in Finnish to the English f-word while swearing) and such aren't that rare to hear, eg. our ex-foreign minister slipped out what would be similar to English "f*** this s***" in a TV interview. However, I tend to be careful to not swear when there are elderly people around, as it's frowned upon by them a lot more.

I replaced all of the usual swears with words of my own. Just because I think that it's very disrespectfull to swear with diseases. Not sure if people in England or where ever do it too, but in Holland people think it's quite normal to swear with 'cancer' or 'typhus'.

When somebody does I just can not say nothing about it.
