Sujet : Ratchet & Clank Finale - Dark and gritty?

I would love the series finale to have a really dark, gritty, and mature tone. How would you guys think that would work? What would story elements be?

I would hope that the finale could be like that. Or at least have the same level of maturity as the finale to the Jak and Daxter trilogy.
Unfortunately, the recent games have all been light and cheerful, which is okay for ones like A4O and FFA, but I thought at least ItN could have been a bit more serious given that they were allegedly trying to go for a spookier setting anyway…
The point is, that I would very much like the finale of the Ratchet and Clank series to be serious for a change, but given the way the franchise has been going recently, I don't see it as being that likely…

What finale?

They're rebooting the first game for next gen systems, it would feel kind of odd if they made a game that takes place after ITN after that. On one hand I like a good new fresh start with all the cool new "awesomeness" of next gen systems (which I'm sure we will see once we see R&C PS4). But on the other hand It would feel kinda wasteful and worthless to have a new beginning, because the massive universe we know will blink away into nothingness. It'd be like taking a one-way trip back in time. Sure we get to re-live everything again, but it's going to play out differently, and all the stuff we had come familiar with is going to just disappear.

EDIT: And don't forget that the new movie is supposed to appeal to children (Being titled as a "kid's movie" on that website that had all the info on the costs of animated film making going down) so it will probably not be very dark. And seeing as how the PS4 game is supposed to be made to play out like the movie, it will probably be about as mature as the current games too… so it doesn't look like we are likely to see a darker tone anytime soon.

That is a worry. I'm really hoping that the remake of the original won't mean they try to reboot the whole series… they could perhaps have that as a one-off remake and then continue the series as normal? Maybe? Hopefully?

Well the reoccuring theme for the PS4 so far has been all about fresh new starts.

Killzone: Shadow Fall takes place years later with all new characters (I suspect there may be a cameo of a certain evil old man at some point though) and environments.
inFamous: Second Son re-introduces conduits, and a whole heap of very new characters and powers. With (probably) very little linkage to the earlier games.
And finally Ratchet & Clank is just straight-up getting a re-boot.

With most of these games taking a large step forward and past our old heroes (and probably villains), so they can't really go back and pick up where they left off now. I suspect Ratchet & Clank are doing the same.

Meanwhile in LBP-world, there is more linkage to the past with PS4 than ever before!

No.
My biggest problem with ACiT (and the Future series in general) is that it takes itself too seriously. If I want a serious story I'll play Jak and Daxter…

Dark and spoofy isnt a Ratchet and Clank quirk. That's why ITN sucked. And no, Ratchet will never find the lombaxes, that is just silly.

Fixed.

I want this game on the PS4 to have crude humor and bad-ass looking weapons that make massive explosions.

I don't think that's the point.

I must say I was a little disappointed when I heard the new game will be an adaption of the movie… though I don't know what I really expected….

I think the biggest problem with that is how ItN ended on such a big cliffhanger.
I wouldn't have minded it if the last game released had been FFA or ACiT.

ACiT yes. A4O yes. Not FFA.

I think FFA ended on a fairly good note.
The duo is back and they're saving the galaxy with Qwark. What more can you ask for?

A4O ended a similar way, but I give you a point. It's just about the fact that I would not like FFA to be the final product of the PS3 era… Luckily ItN prevented that.
