Maybe this name of topic is not good at all, but do you know origins of some word, what appears in Ratchet?

For example word ROBOT has origins from Czech writter Karol Capek

Here is the link for better uderstanding… :oui:

No, I think this might be an interesting topic. Perhaps this hasn't commented yet because I think not too many of us are aware about these things in the Ratchet series… or maybe you could have presented it a bit better.

Well I don't know if this what you wanted, but Cassy's full name (Cassiopeia) in A Crack in Time is named after the northern star constellation with the same name.

And it's obvious that Libra's name, who also appeared in A Crack in Time is named after the seventh astrology sign in the Zodiac, which is also named after a constellation too.

I've heard from some people that the name Lombax maybe a combination of a lynx and a wombat. I don't know if that is officially true, but some people claim to think that the name comes from the combination of those animals, just like with Ottsels in the Jak series.

Well I am sure I can think of more, but that's all I can think of right now.

just like with Ottsels in the Jak series.

don't forget about pecker's species in that series too the 'moncaw' part monkey part macaw

How about Ratchet, its a tool, and an plural for gears… ya know letting each other work, Ratcheting

And the actual name for the north pole star is Polaris

That is true. I can't believe I forgot about the Polaris reference too. emoji

Well you got a point about Ratchet's origin name, but I think it's pretty obvious of where his name came from (because he is named after a tool). You can pretty much say the same thing with other R&C characters like Clank or even Dr.Nefarious for example.

Speaking of names, Apogee (as in Max and Talwyn) and Aphelion (Ratchet's ship) are both terms that are used in astronomy, and both have similar meanings. An Apogee is the point in a moons orbit where is is furthest away from the planet it is orbiting (the closest point being called the Perigee).

An Aphelion is the furthest point in a planets orbit where it is furthest away from the star it is orbiting (the closest point is called the Perihelion).

Quark and Tachyon or both words used in physics as different types of subatomic particles.

Alister's last name, "Azimuth", has various uses such as in astronomy, mapping, and military artillery coordination, among other things. The word azimuth is derived from the Arabic word as-simt, which means direction, which in turn originates from the Indian word Navigath, which means to find direction.

The "Copernicus" Of "Copernicus L Quark" refers to the renaissance astronomer who discovered that, contrary to what the church believed (I.e, the sun travels around the earth) in actual fact, it was the other way around. This paved the way for people like Galileo.

Also, the Praetorian Guard (What Azimuth is) were a group of elite bodyguards for roman emperors.

Solana means "Sunshine", this may be something else, but i translated it from Dutch

Also Bogon means:the imaginary elementary particle of bogosity,
the anti-particle to the cluon (Cluon =The imiaginairy elementairy partcicle of cluefullness),
An incorrectly formed packet sent over a TCP (=Transmission Control Protocol and its an connection oriented)/IP network, esp.
one with the reply bit set instead of the query bit.

Edit: I accidently translated IP to TP whoops

Captain Romulus Slag's name has two meanings:

"Slag" refers to the technical term for what is left of iron ore once all the good stuff's been removed.

"Romulus" comes from roman mythology. Two twins, Romulus and Remus, were born and thrown into the Tiber river, where they were found and fed by a she-wolf, before being taken in and raised by a Shepard. When they grew up they decided to found a city but argued as to who would rule it. Romulus killed Remus and founded the city of Rome, which, as you may know, was the start of hundreds of years of powerful rule.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet…

the word "Chrono" from Chronoseptor comes from the Greek God Chronos, which he represents time in Greek mythology.

But another way the chrono in chronosceptre could have been used is with the time-related meaning. Examples such as "chronology" or "chronological order"…

How about all kinds of planets in the ratchet and clank universe?

Aquatos comes from the word 'aqua', which is Latin for 'water'

Le paradis des tricheurs casino: Le paradis des tricheurs is Frech for: The cheaters' paradise

Florana could come from the word 'flora', which is Latin for plants.

Also, Sargasso is a sea in the atlantic ocean. It is called Sargasso sea because there is some sort of seaweed foating on the surface called Sargassum.

Finally, If you watch planet Veldin as it appears in Up your Arsenal, you can notice a landmass in the upper left looking EXACTLY like Scandinavia…

That is also an exception. I wouldn't had thought of that before. Oh silly me. emoji
