Sujet : R&C Fan-Art Thread

Here's a thread so you can show your fan-art or talk about stuff your working on.

also….

(from R&C Fanfiction thread)

Your drawing style looks pretty similar to Whiplash's drawing style. Is she one of your drawing inspirations on DA?

Well, Many R and C fans over there love her work since she does pretty impressive Ratchet and Clank and Original Lombax work. It's kind of hard to ignore her style.

As for your images, they're quite good, but I would be with Tara, a little too bloody for my taste. I've realized there are many Ratchet and Clank fans that likes to puts a lot of gore in their fan work. Not to sound like a stick in the mud, but I pretty curious to know why?

Sure I don't mind mild blood in some Ratchet and Clank fan art, but lots of it is when I scratch my head and ponder.

Yes, oOWhiplashOo is exactly the person who inspired me to do fan-art, *Ben Anderson and oOWhiplashOo draw some of the best R&C fan-art i've ever seen. But dont think I just copied her, I draw loads of stuff in this style too, I was doing a web-comic in this drawing style for a while aswell (pre me liking R&C times, keep that in mind).

Also about the whole gore thing, I've only started out on DA and those are my most recient drawings, these are based off my fan-fic and are the only drawings with that level of blood in them (I just wanted to show how badly he had been hurt), All my other stuff I haven't uploaded yet is a lot…em…cleaner?…is that the word? As in with little or no blood, so Don't think i'm some sort of crazy guy who loves gore or sumtin like that, I'm not too fond of gore myself (as I clearly mention in the What Games do you Like other than Ratchet and Clank? thread) I admit I may have gone a little bit overboard on his wounds but in my fan-fic he passes out from blood-loss so they had to be pretty bad (that, and I'm not completely used to my new graphics tablet yet).

But thanks for your feedback! :P

Well I understand that you're not a gore fanatic and I wasn't saying that about your work only, I was just saying that to any Ratchet and Clank fan work in general since I see quite a lot of it, especially on DA.

If blood is shown or mentioned in original Lombax characters or any characters you've made to fit the R & C world in a fan-fiction or in fan art, I don't mind. If it's on official R and C characters on the other hand, I will pretty much ignore it unless if the blood is minimal and not extremely a lot or too exaggerated.

I used to draw a lot of fan-work and even original work with a lot of blood in it, but then I stopped because it's not what I was supposed to draw in college one time. I wasn't allowed to do any stuff like this what so ever since it'll not build up your improvement in drawings. Also, drawing people bleeding and such will need a lot of referencing observation if you want to take this kind of approach.

I see you're a member on DA. I'm a member as well, but I hardly don't post a lot of work anymore since not too many people will view art that's been done traditionally with original ideas. If it's fan-base on the other hand, I will get a few more comments than my original work.

I do have some R and C fan work in my gallery in there. Some of the fan art you see in my gallery is also viewed at my fan art album on this site.

To Tipsy:

I still love your art even if not many people on DA havn't checked your art out anymore in there emoji

yeah I had a lot of trouble trying to make the blood on him look good (didn't turn out too well) I was thinking about it a lot, like since he had fur and clothes on it wouldn't really flow in straight line like humans but more soak into the surrounding fur and clothing, thats why the patches are so big. I'll have to look into it more for future work

Other things I have trouble drawing are eyes and hands, they usually turn out perfect after many attempts (like my surprise ear piercing pic), but when I just cant get it right I look to oOWhiplashOo's or Ben Anderson's work to see how they did it (Thats why some of it may look similar). They are just so good at it its unbelievable!

Who's ThatGuyWithTheGlasses?

He's an internet sensation that makes comical reviews and other sketches. He's pretty well known as the Nostalgia Critic, which he does reviews of TV shows and movies from the past. Definitely one of my idols when it comes to comedy. emoji

To Revan:

Yeah, I remember having so much trouble drawing eyes and hands before. The key to do eyes and hands well is just blocking them first with lines and shapes and just mapping out the proportions of the figure. Of course, draw this very lightly. Then when that's taken care of, just built those parts again with curved outlines. Also, using a human anatomy book can be pretty helpful too when it comes to drawing certain parts of the human figure.

I replied to Tipsy in the other thread but had my post rudely deleted so I'll try and retype it again…

But yes, Whiplash does have some of the nicest Ratchet related artwork on DA. She's very good when it comes to lombaxes, Smuggler, fancharacters, poses and anatomy for those drawings emoji she only lacks a bit with backgrounds and shading, but other than that, I do like her work a lot too and I check it out now and then (and I don't like visiting DA). As well as some others on there.

But yeah, I could instantly see the influence of her on Revans art too emoji which isn't a bad thing. it's only bad when people trace and copy without any credit so yeah, no problem!

Well I'm not a member of DevianART anymore, because of my bad experiences with the Crash fandom and I'm not really fond of posting things on DA anymore, since it's become more of a popularity contest than sharing meaningful comments, critiques and gaining real friendships)

Anyhow, back to the subject. Most of my Ratchet and Clank art can be found in the Fan Art area of this site, including some that hasn't been posted on my website. But I have many more on my Fallen Star site, though only open minded fans will be able to appreciate it since I don't draw mainstream Ratchet artwork (like 100's of lombaxes, etc XD)

I do agree with you about DA, although I still visit the site because there are still some terrific artists out there that can draw, paint and sculpt really amazingly. You just have to do some research to find those fantastic artists, but I do agree that the other half of DA is just a popularity contest with non artists who would post things that are either not worth checking or pictures of themselves doing dumb things. If you really want to take pictures of you and your friends with low quality images, why not go to Facebook? Or MySpace.com?

But anywho, Whiplash and Ben on DA are pretty good R and C artists. Other DA artists that have drawn Ratchet and Clank fan-work which I've enjoyed are Sibsy and enolianslave.

Sibsy's designs are very cartoony which she has done some pretty great drawings of Ratchet in her style. I definitely love the way she draws. Not only for Ratchet and Clank, but for anything that she submits on DA.

enolianslave is a huge fan of Dr.Nefarious and she has done some Ratchet and Clank fan-work that is pretty enjoyable with an interesting western style, especially the way she draws Dr.Nefarious and Lawrence.

I've checked out enolianslave stuff before and I think she's really good in her own style but I'll go check out Sibsy's stuff

I might have to check them out too then sometime emoji But yeah, I'm pretty open minded with what artists post, non-fanart or fanart related (if I see something I don't like though, like yaoi, I just ignore/avoid it).
I even support my friends who don't do fanart at all, as seen in my own website (my website has a gallery system where my friends are able to create their own albums and add their art. And comment each other) it's like having my own DeviantART XD and I like it.

But yeah I do appreciate original styles too, especially in Ratchet art. Some fans can be a bit close minded if your style is too different to the games style though, which is kinda sad really :/ but I'm definitely not.

Heh not bad work there, the design for the outfit works pretty well too as one of the Lombax soldiers during those days. Good work emoji I think you only need to learn how to shade, when you feel the time is right emoji

I recently finished a picture of Ratchet and Qwark but I'm not sure about posting it now, since I screwed up a few things in it :S didn't come out as good as I hoped… though thankfully Qwark isn't badly drawn like my first 'epic fail' attempts XD

Thats it! I knew there was something missing from my pics, I'll make sure to put shading on my next one.
