Sujet : Original or Remake?

Whether it is a song, movie or even a video game, compare the differences between something that originally came out first, but then was remade by someone else years later. Also mention which one you prefer better, the original or the remake.

Here's an example:

Let's start off with ummmm….

The song Land of Confusion, which was originally sung by the band Genesis in their 1986 album, Invisible Touch.

Afterward, the heavy metal band Disturbed did a remade of the song in their 2006 album Ten Thousand Fists.

Normally, I think good songs being remade today turns out to be utter garbage, but Disturbed's version of Land of Confusion is actually pretty good. They've pretty much nailed the right beats to make it like the Genesis' version, except with a metal vibe to it.

But in all honesty, I still have to go with Genesis' version of Land of Confusion. It just brings quite a lot of nostalgia on me. Plus the music video is amazing with scary looking puppets and strange visuals, but all has a strong meaning overall. The Disturbed version had symbolism in their music video, but I felt it was a bit too obvious of what they were.

Speaking of Invisable Touch by Genesis I loved that song I'm not sure if there was a remake of that song but if they were I think I prefer the old version emoji

I have noticed 2 versions of one song I adored as a child

Dirty Dancing - Time of my life (the version I loved so darn much as a child)

Black Eye Peas - The Time dirtybit (AKA the ruined version of my childhood song T_T)

The Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes' version of The Time of My Life will always be remembered compared to the abomination version done by the Black Eyed Peas. Their version started not so bad in the beginning until they had to fill that bee-bopping racket throughout the rest of the song.

But yeah I agree, the Medley and Warnes version is better. Plus it's a better way to remember the late Patric Swayze in the movie Dirty Dancing. He will be missed.

yeah I agree with you about the start point of the Black Eye Peas version when I first heard that bit in a youtube poop I thought the rest might sound interesting but since I found it and listend to it after the starting point I felt gutted knowing a great song has been b******ized by the Black Eye Peas.

I havn't felt that much Disapointed since ultraBeat did a remix of 'use sombody' from Kings of leon it may not be an original song but kings of leon did made it before ultrabeat which it was too sudden to make a f**k up version of this song when I first heard it I was like 'Ultrabeat you disapoint me'

But anyways I've found two versions of a different song

Dirty Dancing - Hungry Eyes

Eyeopener - Hungry Eyes

sometimes I like the new virsion but it's not as great as the original version by Dirty Dancing.

I didn't even know that anyone even covered Land of Confusion! That's one of my fav Genesis songs XD I think Disturbed did a pretty good job without killing the Original. It's pretty much close to it, just with metal.

And back on topic: I'm personally more of an original person, but I don't mind remakes neither along they're good and still keep the heart the old version had.

One remake I like is for Running up that Hill by Kate Bush done by Placeho

Here's the original:

Here's the cover:

I love both version equally, but I do like the vibe Placeho's cover done a bit more being it fits very well. Haunting at times even, which fits. I still love Kate's voice more though being it's just gorgeous.

Ive seen that happen its annoying!

@TipsyMcBee

Have you ever tried playing both versions of land of confusion at the same time? if you manage to time it just perfectly, the awesome will blow your mind!!! XD

Cool idea Revan. I should experience with that one day. :oui:

This definitely explains why you thought the Placebo version of "Running Up That Hill" had a haunting feel overall. Listening to that song now gave me the goosebumps. emoji

Has anyone seen other materials than just music with original or remake outcomes? Movies? Games even?

The PS1 game MediEvil had a remake on the PSP called MediEvil Resurrection.

Here's the graveyard level from both games:

MediEvil (original):

MediEvil Resurrection:

Both of them have this Tim Burton feel to it, but there's no doubt that i would pick the original, nostalgic one.

How about…

the 1984's Karate Kid versus the 2010's Karate Kid

The 1984 version of the Karate Kid will always be an iconic movie that a lot of people will love and adore.

The 2010 version of the Karate Kid may sound ridiculous at first, but to be honest, it's a really well crafted remake. The story is just like the 1984 version of Karate Kid, but with some intriguing changes. It's definitely a must watch.

Seriously, it's really hard to decide which version is better.

*Curious if Doug Walker had something to do with this post* XD

I love both versions, but if there's something I still can't get over with the remake is that it was Khufu, not Karate. Both are two different things. Other than that I though both did a good job with the same story while fitting with the times the films take place.

No. I have actually watched these movies before NC's latest video of Old versus New.

I think everyone would make an argument why in the remake the kid is learning Kung Fu but the title is called the "Karate" Kid. Even my 8 year old cousin questioned about that too.

But I assume it's because Jackie Chan himself literally knows Kung Fu and somehow the remake version corp-orated that in the film. Although I heard from interviews that Chan refers the remake as "The Kung Fu Kid".

No I assumed much, I just mentioned it because NC had a new video comparing the two as well after this post. XD

The movie still follows the same story too though, just telling in a different way. Either or, both are still good films that can stand on there own.

Ooh, I have a good one, how about…

Spyro the Dragon series versus The Legend of Spyro series.

I like the former a lot better personally. I felt the reboot was ridiculous in the first place.
