Better yet, what is Sony Japan never interfered? Imagine how ugly Ratchet would look. He'd have no stripes or eye brows.

If Ratchet had the same kind of voice as he has in Japan ánd the big black eyebrows. I might never have played it.
The only reason I don't really like Legend of Kay is because the main char has a childish voice. I'm never gonna be a big fan because of that. I think it would be the same with Ratchet. *is ashamed

But if it weren't for Sony Japan suggesting Ratchet have stripes and eyebrows he would be ugly! Infact Ted Price originally hated the idea of Ratchet having stripes and eyebrows. You can give them some credit for that.

Haha, yeah I know the story from the press converence
I credit him for that, very. But if Ratchet would be the same as he is in Japan… ouch.
Well, first thing I wanna say, the box-art for the Japanese version of the PS2 games is like, the best ever! This could be because I'm an anime fan, but I digress. Next thing, I think the game would go for a more cell-shaded and childish look (like The Wind Waker). I personally wouldn't mind if the models were like the artwork on the box-art (the eye brows actually look okay there). Also, Ratchet wouldn't have a childish voice, they'd probably get James Taylor and the rest of he cast to dub the game

Gameplay wise I think it'd be sweet, cos Japan is really good at gameplay and visuals.
As for dubbing that's a biiig no, anything I've seen that's dubbed into English has been rubbish. I'm willing to be surprised though.
And those big black eyebrows
But if Japan bought one out now, using existing characters and cast I'd give it a go.

I think that if the Japanese version had come first, Taylor would never have been asked to do it. Ratchet would have gotten an alike voice, like other Japanese games that get an English voice over. Our dear people from the west actually make voices look like the original.

Hmm, not too keen on that idea, Ratchet wouldn't be Ratchet without Taylor. Same for Clank and all the others, but I haven't played a Japanese import/dubbed game so I wouldn't know what they're like.

I'm a Dark Cloud fan, and I can safely say that what you said is a HUGE lie.

It really depends on the directors, look at games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and, now on anime, Dragon Ball Z (Ocean Dub). Also, I heard that the reason Ratchet's voice was like that in the Japanese version was cause he was 15 years old (that's kind of a running theme in animes and Japanese video-games)

The only Japanese game I have ever played is Metal Gear Solid. And I think they did a good job on the English version. I don't think all Japanese people are crazy for anime. If Hideo Kojima and Konami made Ratchet & Clank I'm sure it would be okay.
As I've said, I don't know any other Japanese games, but really if Ratchet & Clank was made by the Japanese instead of Insomniac Games then we might or might not have played it, and if we had played it it might or might not interest us. There is no way of knowing.
The real question is, what would it look like? They would be making the game knowing it's got to appeal to Europe and America. So maybe they, like Insomniac, would have given Ratchet some more sensible eyebrows for us? I mean Sony would still own the IP, and it would still be a major mascot for the PS2.

I've played many games made in Japan. From StarFox I know that the studio wanted to make the voices as much alike the original, because thats how its surposed too, you must let it look like eachother.
I also live in a non-English country where most kiddie tv-shows are voiced. The acting isn't that great, but the voices are alike to the original.

And what exactly does that entail? The English dubs of Bleach, Code Geass, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, TTGL, etc. are all just fine.
If SCEI made a R&C game, I'd be just fine with that. But I don't know how I'd feel about anyone not Insomniac doing another R&C game. I think High Impact did a GREAT job with SAC, but their first game wasn't so great.
And, just as an aside, Taylor does a lot of voice work for Square, including Jack Sparrow in Kingdom Hearts II, Happy and the Prince from Snow White, as well as voicing a main character in Final Fantasy X. THE main character, in fact, Tidus. It's sort of relevant. Taylor has experience in Japanese video games.

Some TV and film I've seen had absolutely terrible English dubbing. To start with it's funny but it gets wearing after a while, so I did steer clear of anything that was dubbed after that.
But that was years ago, so hopefully it's improved since then.

I've never had a problem with English voice overs on Japanese games. English fits perfect and the voice actors know what they're doing. Besides… I hate Japanese and mostly they have stupid voice overs, mostly because almost everyone sound the same over there
