Sujet : What's with the love for Ratchet?

Ever since 2011, I've noticed many people that love Ratchet to death, they'd go to the end of the world just to be with him, but I don't see it.
I honestly find Ratchet to be a completely boring character outside of the 1st game and some scenes in ToD. He's always just been a link between the player and the R&C universe.
Characters like Qwark, Clank, Skidd… are much more interesting than Ratchet, and it feels like most people just like him cause he's the main character, which shouldn't be a reason to like a character.
I think that the hate for the new designs is what really makes this appearent. Ratchet's design is hated and bashed, while other characters' are just ignored, even if they had a more drastic re-design than Ratchet.

Or maybe it's just me…

I agree with you. He's pretty… well, ordinary character. A young hero who's looking for his lost family. I don't say I don't like him, I just think there are much more interesting characters in R&C universe. I would share my flustration about Clank's discrimination in last few games, but we're talking about overrated characters.
As for the desings you mentioned, Qwark was the one who's change was most dractic. By changing his chin, they actually made him look even dumber, and that wasn't really necessary.

If you saw the behind the scenes in R&C 1, Im sure that you would then know why people love him soooo much, me included. His personality is one of the things i love about him and I am one of the people who would die just to live with him.
I rest my case.

Okay, let me explain why I like Ratchet so much in two simple points.

1. His design - he just looks cute, and his facial expressions are really quite vivid.
2. Great voice acting - he sounds like a happy, friendly kind of guy.

I don't think he's generic or cliched at all. In fact, the reason I like him so much is because he isn't the dark, brooding antihero. He's loyal to his friends, he's quick to help people, and on top of all that, he's adorable!
A great character, and one rightly loved by a helluva lot of people.

I wish he were real.

I'll add on to that, Commodus.

Over the series he has changed in character. In the first game he was selfish, bitter, and sometimes too quick to act. And then as the games progress he changes. It is evident at most by Tools of Destruction that he became more caring and mature. And then mature, caring, and serious as well, even becoming more wise. Even Ratchet has reflected on his own change. To me that's a brilliant character.

And of course, like Commodus said, his overall design is great. Can you imagine having those ears?

Ratchet has gone through the most unusual changes I have ever seen. I mean from R&C1 to R&C2 they had turned him around a full 180! He use to explore the universe for the hell of it and argue with Clank, but in R&C2 he never fought with Clank, and was really trying to help the people of Bogon. UYA was more of the same from R&C2, he hadn't changed much at all, and if you cut out R&C2 you wouldn't feel like you missed any development on Ratchet.

Deadlocked went with a darker tone and it did move Ratchet in a more serious direction by being captured and forced to fight. Very little cahnges, but I did notice him change.

Tools of Destruction made very very little sense. It's like Insomniac wanted to re-tell the first game. Ratchet went back to being mean to Clank (and yelling at Qwark) and thinking only of himself, only to be switched back again into hero mode as he was back in Going Commando. From Tools of Destruction onwards he's this amazing hero with absolutely no character flaws what-so-ever. Really from that point on the only thing he's got going is that he's cute and has a good voice actor, he really doesn't have/need much depth. He's always stuck in the middle of a triangle between Clank Qwark and some bad guy, so I guess they need him to be a good example for all three of them and the people playing the games (considering it's a family game)

he's adorable!

Different tastes I guess.

Yeah, well, I love his character. He's the one that got me in series anyway when I saw a wallpaper and I thought he looked amazing. I've always had a soft spot for animal-like/furry characters. Probably because I grew up with the friendly Nintendo.

Ratchet has a great personality too and I love playing as him.. and I wouldn't want it any different.

he's adorable!

You don't think he's cute?
I find that especially funny given how much I like your avatar emoji

C'mon, you can admit it, there's some small part of you that wants to give Ratchet a big hug, isn't there? emoji

Finally came out of the closet eh?

It still doesn't change the fact that almost every R&C character is underrated because of him.

I thought that almost every R&C character is underrated because of Qwark. Clank *cough* Clank.

So i'm not the only one who thought that then.
