Thread: R+C TV show?

Being a comic was now announced, and being the games are growing more and more of a fanbase, I thought I would make a little thread for lulz.

Now that we heard a comic series is coming out in the fall, do you think there will be any hope for a tv series? While I don't know if I want one for sure, I think it would be pretty cool mattering on who's working on it.

Personally, I would love the story to be based on the PS2 games (and could go to PS3 if it gets that far) but rewritten. Pretty much based on all four games, but the story will be fully new as for content goes. What I mean is: Same storyline, but revisited and much different than the one in the game. (that, and I don't think it would be fun watching the exact same storyline that's in the game). Also, it has to be written by TJ Fixman. Why? Because I think he did a fantastic job with CiT and being he's on-board with the comic, it would be nice to see him involved as well.

Though, I don't think they will have the budget for the Pixar PS3 CGI in the show, but I always though a nice 2D style like Creaturebox or even saying close to the models in the game would be pretty sweet.

So yeah, share ideas, thoughs, etc.

It would be cool if there was a Ratchet and Clank TV series out, but like you said, anyone who is trustworthy to hold the rights to make the show like TJ Fixman for instance would be okay for this to happen.

I become quite skeptical when a company gets a right to a game franchise to make a movie or show out of it and it turns out to be utter bird plop afterward.

We've seen many TV shows and movies based on games that turned out horrible or "meh" in results.

Probably the only TV series based on a video game that I would consider watching is the Sonic the Hedgehog SATAM cartoon… and maybe even The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, despite the fact that show is utter cheese-ball and bad… but I do have some guilty pleasure in watching it.

Dude! I loved SatAM! Likely one of the few TV shows based on a video game that was really good. If they were to make a Ratchet show like that, I'll so watch it!

I agree to what TipsyMcBee say.

Mostly TV show base on games don't really come out goo (*coughSonicXcough)

I'll squeal like a little girl if there was a show 'based' on the games (as is actually good, with a nice style, 2D or 3D) *Imagines Deadlocked scenes in that format…* emoji

But yeah that would be very cool, but only if the right people get to work with it of course, as you have suggested. And I actually imagine it more in 2D, unless they use the same kind of models as seen in the future series for a 3D take on it.

The problem with going with the 3D style in a TV show is that the budget will be too high, compare to movies(and Ratchet wouldn't work well in film I think) it wouldn't be the best choice. I personally would love a nice 2D style that's like CreatureBox or kinda close to the 3D models, but with it's own vibe.

Also, think about this: Video Games, while it is a way of telling a story, you can't be too long being it will interfere with game play (and just wouldn't work). So being this, a lot more story can be told, as well as stuff they weren't able to do in the games (ex. More back-story for characters (think Ace and Vorselon, who got little to none), more open to story telling, could put things in that wouldn't work in the games, etc.)

I was thinking about after finishing LiR working on rewriting the first four games for fun, but mattering on what else is going on with my life, it's still up in the air.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It would be very neat if they could do more with the story and I'd love to see it in 2D too, since 2D animation is being less and less popular these days >.< but they could really do a lot with the characters and the story from the games, and expand them… if done by the right people of course emoji

It's sort of a shame that many people rely on 3D animation because it's easier to handle with compared to 2D animation, but like SweetT said that 3D requires a bit of a higher budget for details and form in the visuals.

Also, I think the reason we don't see too much 2D animated shows is because it requires more work and maybe even a way higher budget to do than 3D animation. Sure, most traditional animations uses computers for touches and coloring, even animated programs and films in the 90's would use computers for certain aspects in animation, but it seems that today's 2D animated shows are relying on technology a little too much.

If Ratchet and Clank was ever made into 2D animated show, I definitely would want to see the show in a cartoony natural approach like in the games or even in a stylized look like CreatureBox would produce for the R&C merchandise. The cartoon like approach works well with Ratchet and Clank, and it can work well in any design and charactures what-so-ever, whether the drawings can be like this…

0r maybe even this…

Either way, Ratchet and Clank can work well as a show, if it has the right people and an enough budget to produce the show sucessfully.

It really depends on the writing style, something like this can very easily be turned into a complete kids nickelodeon waste of space. If it was in the style of the video games, which would mean it would make it a 12A in the UK (I assume) then I would love it and watch it daily. :B
I think the best style would be The ones used in the concept art, or an adapted style from the actual in game 3D graphics. If the show was in 3D I don't think I would be too impressed.
