Thread: Most Underrated Characters in Ratchet and Clank

Deleted user

Who do you think are the most underrated, unappreciated characters in the Ratchet and Clank universe. I'm sure there are bound to be tons of characters that haven't been overlooked, especially in the PS2 games. emoji

Here are my choosen characters that seem to be unappreciated.

Ratchet and Clank 1 - There are tons of supporting characters in this game that show in one or two segments and then leave afterward. But if I had to pick one character that has been underrated in this Ratchet game, I would go with Sam the Scrap Merchant. You know, the guy in planet Otlantis.

Going Commando - Hmmm… I would have to say Old Smolgian.

Sometimes I keep forgetting about this character every time I play Going Commando. But then again, there were a few characters that didn't felt that memorable, except for Angela Cross, Fizzwidget and the Thug leader.

Up Your Arsenal - Kind of tough though because most of the supporting cast in this game were pretty memorable. But I would probably say Maxmillain is the most underrated character in Up Your Arsenal. I am aware that he only appears in Clank's big TV hit Secret Agent Clank, but it seems that some fans tend to forget about him sometimes when discussing about anything related to Secret Agent Clank or this particular game.

Deadlocked - Hydro Girl. I just wished she had more screen time and mentions in this game. She was probably the most attractive and coolest character in Ratchet: Deadlocked.

Tools of Destruction - I'm definitely going to say Aphelion for this one. That's right, the ship. She had quite an impact on the story with a fun Night Rider charm to it. It's sort of a shame that not too many people talk about her.

A Crack in Time - I would have to say Libra, one of the Valkyries in the game. Sure, I can see the Valkyrie didn't had a huge role in this game, making them completely forgettable and what not. Although, I think Libra was probably the best out of the three with her manly voice and her brawn personality.

R&C:
Bob - He installed the thruster pack, which personally I wasn't too keen on, but I know was very popular, but most people only remember Al.

Going Commando:
I would probably have to agree with the Old Smolgian, or perhaps the ventilaquist on planet Damosel, there are actually debates as to which of those was the puppet! emoji

Up Your Arsenal:
the Galactic Rangers: they may not be that under-rated, but they seem to be forgotten a lot of the time, which is a shame. emoji

Deadlocked:
Merc and Green - These were the combat bots that followed you around, they may have had a large roll in terms of story, but so many people see to forget their names and refer to them as "those battle-bots"

ToD:
The Drophyd commander - you ever saw this character, but you could hear him frequently over the comlink at some points in the game, such as Kerwan, Kortog, Mukow, Rykan V, Viceron, Reepor, Igliak and Fastoon.

ACiT:
The Vullards - They may have only been minor characters, but their voice synthesisers sounded nice and after all, if it hadn't been for the Vulards, you would never have found Azimuth or the Obsidian Eye on planet Lumos.

It seems that Bob and Edwina are pretty much forgotten siblings in Big Al's family.

I was actually going to say that the ventriloquist was a forgotten character at first (aka the hypnotist), but I thought the Old Smolgian was more of a perfect candidate as an underrated character in Going Commando.

That is understandable. Some fans tend to forget these guys a lot. But, it's kind of silly too since the they have many screen time in Up Your Arsenal.

Once again, that is an understandable choice too. I always remember Green's name, but never Merc. But I am aware that they are in this game.

Wow! You pretty much went deep with the forgotten characters in Tools of Destruction. But then again, for a character that hasn't been seen at all, I could see why people would forget this character right away.

ACiT:
The Vullards - They may have only been minor characters, but their voice synthesisers sounded nice and after all, if it hadn't been for the Vulards, you would never have found Azimuth or the Obsidian Eye on planet Lumos.

I would agree that they are the most underrated species in A Crack in Time. Sure they are scattered everywhere in many sectors and moons, but once again, people would tend to forget them immediately.

How about the Valkyries as a whole? Probably the most underused species in the series. Even the comics ignore them!

On that note, I guess I could also say the Desert Riders. Those guys were hilarious! Kinda wish we could have seen more of them.

That's true. The Desert Riders were pretty funny in Going Commando, with such little screen time in results. But in my opinion, they weren't too forgettable compared to the Hypnotist and the Old Smolgian fella in the game.

As for the Valkyries… they were pretty much wasted in A Crack in Time, except for Cassey for gags that involves her with Dr.Nefarious. If only Carina and Libra had more attention and screen time just because I thought they had more characteristic appeal than Cassey did. In other words, Cassey was kind of boring in my opinion.

I just remembered, I played through Going Commando a couple of months ago, and, whilst I'd remebered both the Old Smolgian AND the hypnotist, a character who was brilliant, more remembered than both of the above but still NEVER mentioned in forums was the Mystic.

Ratchet: I got some moonstones

Mystic: No you do not; existence is an illusion.

Ratchet: All right, I have an illusion of some moonstones, I'll exchange for an illusion of a hypnomatic part.

Mystic: You have learned much.

I actually did mention about the Mystic in an old thread in this forum, so I didn't think he was really that underrated in my opinion just became he had a bit more screen time compared to the other minor characters that we've mentioned before.

But I think the most underrated cast of characters in the Ratchet franchise would have to be any of the new characters in Quest For Booty. I don't think a lot of people barely even talks about them in any forum, whether it is in here or in any other R&C fourm. But of course, they weren't entirely that memorable in the first place. Plus I don't think too many people have played Quest For Booty to even talk about characters such as…

This Guy…

Or maybe this fellow…

Or what about this guy?

Okay, I'll just say it. This species in general are probably the most underrated in the Ratchet and Clank universe. More forgettable than the Valkyries or even the Vullards in A Crack in Time.

The characters from quest for booty are underrated and Al's brother from the first game and also Ed I think her name was that gives you the hydro pack and likes Clank from the first game, in the snow planet named hoven or something like that (sorry havent played the first game in awhile)

Ratchet and Clank Going Commando: I agree with the Hypnist dude, he could've been a main character, but just wasn't. I thought he was a unique character.

Ratchet and Clank/ Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal: I'm going to have to say the Amoiboids. They're not exactly unforgettable, but I think more could've been done with them. They served little purpose in either game (besides the Quark Vid-Comics) and just seem pointless. Blackwater City was under attack in R&C1, but they didn't tie to the storyline in anyway.

Ratchet and Clank Deadlocked: Captain Starshield? He was only at the beginning, but he was apparently #1 until Ace Starlight came over.

Wow…! there sure are a lot of underrated characters in the series, now that I actually read the posts in this topic. Very interesting, indeed emoji But yeah, I agree with all of you there! Especially with those characters who have no names, heh.

And Malazzy… could you please change your icon? (maybe to a non-animated version?) It's very distracting and I even had to use my image blocker to block it, since it was too annoying to see on topics here (Sorry, no offense :S ) just asking, thanks.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that it's very distracting to you, I really like that image! I guess I'll try to change it soon, it seemed perfect to me.

The Mathematician from R&C2! He was hilarious, and had some good potential as a returning character, but he was never seen again…..
