Thread: Facebook

Does Facebook is a cool side?
Should I sing up there?
My cousin said that site is stupid for her. Does that mean it's stupid for you?
What's cool and uncool there?
Can you tell me?
I just want to make sure;o!!!!

to answer your question simply:
facebook is a tool to communicate with your friends and family, not much else, so whether or not it's "worth creating an account" is up to you depending on how important such communication is to you.

A more complex answer would be:
facebook is a site designed to change the way we think of socialising, by ruining it and by adding pointless elements that don't make sense (You received 5 pokes). However, facebook can be useful if you need to keep up with something specifically, for instance, A theatre for which I am an actor has a "group" consisting of all it's members, so that they can easily inform people of rehearsal times. Other than that, I don't really use facebook, I prefer to socialise with people when I find it nescacary and via other forms of communication. Again, whether or not it's worth getting a profile is down to your own personal preferences regarding your social-life

Personally and frankly, I REALLY think Facebook is overrated. You have to sell away your personal information (even Myspace is better in that context), and those who don't care about that often say the most useless things daily, which is supposed to be what Twitter's for. Only reason I'm there at all is because it's so popular, so I pretty much have to promote my music there.

Another reason I hate Facebook is that it's killed off niche websites. Not even just this one: I founded an unrelated forum a few years ago and can confidently say that, while there are occasionally new people who sign up, the average number of posts per month is decreasing. emoji Facebook doesn't even have public conversation mediums (which, in their case, was also forums), anymore, which is what really disturbs me in regards to people switching over to there: they're losing even more interaction opportunities in favor of talking about themselves most of the time on their own Walls.

This was originally a double-post, and I can't seem to delete this. Sorry about that.

I might be a little late on this but…

For me, I like facebook because I have no other way to keep up with friends that are long distant. Also, I can get updates on groups i'm involved in and message at once to anyone i need to discuss something with. I use it to socialize when i'm not socializing with anyone in person.
