Thread: R&C Fan-Art Thread

Heh not bad work there, the design for the outfit works pretty well too as one of the Lombax soldiers during those days. Good work I think you only need to learn how to shade, when you feel the time is right

I took you advide an learned how to shade using the Burn and Dodge tool in Adobe Photoshop CS4

here's my first shaded artwork: http://revanac.deviantart.com/art/Tweaking-162084903

let me know what you think emoji

yeap, I can definitely see a bit more improvement this time round emoji once you start to shade your pics more, you'll start to get the hang of it and be able to shade them 'realistically' (when I shade, I try to imagine as if they're 3D, so I know where the lighting and shadows should be) it took me a lot of time to get good with that. Then once you're used to it, you can try fur-shading =D

But yeah, keep it up emoji

I agree that the latest image Revan has drawn has some improvements. It good to have some shading and even lighting in your images, because without that, the images would not be that interesting to look at.

Also, I would suggest that you should at least put some backgrounds in your fan-work or any art that you're working on. I know doing backgrounds are hard to do and not a lot of people enjoy doing those, but putting some life or even colour in the backgrounds would make the images more believable and interesting to view at than just a white background. Adding backgrounds could understand the story of your images a littler bit better.

TipsyMcBee mentioned I should put backgrounds in my drawings, well heres my latest one done with a background (dont forget to click full view):

yeah, it definitely looks better now with a background. Pretty good work there emoji just keep doing them as much as you can for each pic and you'll become used to it like I am with scenes from my stories emoji

My DA emoji

I also saw some of your comments on some of my R & C fan pieces on DA (even if I kinda ignore DA these days). emoji

Like I mentioned before, the art style in your fan work doesn't appeal to me that much, but the vibe and charm is what makes you images good to look at, especially ones with Nefarious and Vorselon in them.

I would like to submit one R and C image I did months ago into the RG fan art gallery soon, but I think the site doesn't accepts any PGN files when you upload the pictures into your gallery. I tried switching the piece to JPEG, but the quality wasn't that great to be honest. I guess it's the size that's making the comic in "meh" quality.

So I'll just submit a link of it for now.

It's just an interpretation drawing of the Cryosleep scene from TOD in my style. Some of you may have already seen the image but those who haven't… get ready to giggle your head off. emoji

Yeah, I'm sure you guys saw me around a few times.

Not everyone is going to love the same kind of style of work like someone else does (I love your work a lot though, just has that early cartoon vibe to it. (for some reason it makes me think of Tom and Jerry)), but I still love to hear that you love the charm of my work. That's always makes happy to hear. But everyone has there own style of there liking, though I will say I do want to lean away from the anime style a bit in time.

Heh well I don't mind your style emoji I'm usually quite open with most styles so yeah, I don't really hate many XD (though I suppose I admit most anime is kinda plain for me to look at, but the way you draw the characters is fine to me though emoji ) but it is neat once you can evolve your style into something unique and different, though at the same time it is very hard to get a 'unique' style with so many about these days… I have no idea what my style would be classified as XD

Anyway, I have most of my Ratchet and Clank art in the Fanart area already, but there is lots at my Fallen Star website (mostly Ace though, lol!) so you can see what else I have there if you guys want to…. http://www.thefallenstar.xtremeisland.com/thefallenstar_artwork.htm
(you can even see my crappy earlier art of them early this year, as I slowly got used to drawing the R&C characters lol)

I think your drawing style goes more on an original approach Tara, which is good because there are people who are looking for styles that hasn't been done before. Although, when I view you work, I see a bit of some Simpsons / Futurama-esque (Not by the style, but the way you set up the designs of the characters) in your work, but with a lot of depth and detail to it.

It's interesting how you find my style to look like Tom and Jerry SweetT. I have grew up with watching some Tom and Jerry cartoons, but not as much as with the Looney Tunes or Disney cartoons.

I used to draw in a slight Anime style before, but of course I had to stop doing that because it didn't help me improve on my drawings one bit. I think the key thing to find a drawing style is to be open and inspired with a variety things to make a style that's right and comfortable for you. It may take a while to find your drawing style, but it's actually worth it.

Well your style surely has a retro cartoon feel, I was also going to say Looney Tunes as well XD And for some reason, your Clank makes me think of SteamBoat Willy'a Micky Mouse. XD

And yes, pretty much I'm how I see it aswell. While I do like my style now, I do plan on leaning less Anime ish in time. I'm still growing as an artist, and there are alot of things to do.

heh, Futurama/Simpsons? Well I do like both of those series but I never actually think of them while drawing XD but yeah, some used to say mine had a bit of Crash Bandicoot in it but I don't think so anymore (it's only because I used to draw those characters a lot, but they look different in my style) but I am glad to know mine is more on the unique side.

And well yeah I agree with SweetT, yours does remind me of those older cartoons like Looney Toons and such xD which is cool though, since I do like your style as well too. Interesting seeing those characters in a toonier style emoji

And SweetT, you'll eventually find the right style when you improve more, so no worries =D it did take me a while to find a 'permanent' style too, though I never used to draw in anime to begin with (I don't know what my old style was, just some deformed/out of proportion style XD) the more you practice, the better you'll get emoji

Every artist goes through this step, whether is it the skills or the creative concepts. So this is basically normal if you think about it.

My earlier work was really wonky and out of proportion than my recent drawings (either original or fan-base). If you see some of my older drawings on DA, the style has a mix of Western with Anime to it (according to what some of my friends have said about my work), but then I needed to be open up with other things other than old school style cartoons and Japanese Animation.

Although, I wouldn't go "BOO!" on the Anime style 100%. There are some things that I've drew that have a slight Anime look to it, especially when I design hair on human characters. So I think adding some Anime styles in drawings isn't a bad thing. Just look at Avatar: the Last Air Bender for example. It's Western/Anime style appealed to so many people, plus it's story and concept too.

It's great that you two think of my work like it's something in a western cartoon. It a shame when people think of the cartoon styles back then, it's either for babies or that is g*y. I get kind of annoyed when some people think of the retro vibe like that. emoji

Better stop going off topic right now.

Ok I want to bring this topic back emoji

Well I haven't done too much R&C Art lately, because I was away in Germany for the past 5 weeks. But I did manage to finish this random pic…

Psycho gets Jealous (it's too big to hotlink here XD)

Also posted it here to fanart, but yeah feel free to share any R&C Artwork, folks emoji !
