Thread: PSOne Games from the PSN

The last time I logged online on my PS3 was over a year. Now from some kind of anonymous miracle, I finally have internet access to log into the PSN and to go online through the PS3.

One day, I browsed around the PS Store to see the downloadable games and old titles that Sony had to offer and I checked that PSN has some old PSOne games that I never got the chance to play when they were first launched back when the system was around. I never grew up with PSOne back then so I never got the experience to try the games out.

My question to ask you guys is what PSOne titles that are on the PSN are worth buying? I'm sure a lot of people are going to say the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro trilogies (which I don't mind trying out, but not now due to school), but are there other PSOne games that you guys can recommend me to try out?

Yea The only SP1 game I have ever played is Crash Bandicoot 1 (long after I got LBP2, and because it was made by the same people that made Jak & Daxter) Was around $7 (NZD We get ripped off) Maybe more? It is okay, but by far the hardest game I have ever played (and I have played Jak II So be in for a difficult adventure! That's the only game I ever brought, because I wanted to save up for A4O and R3 (one of which I now have, and $0 left over). BUT I played this game called Medievil on PSP, it was a re-make and while I thought it was great, some other people say the original was better, so I'd look at getting that too.

Well, the Crash Bandicoots are good, but 2 and 3 are better in terms of gameplay as the save function is awful in the Crash 1. Crash Team Racing is another game that's worth getting if you like kart racers (Jak Combat Racing was practically a PS2 version of CTR), though I personally haven't bought it from PSN as I prefer the games on physical disks over download. All four are available in the European store for €4.95 and in the American store for $5.99.

You can also take a look on the most downloaded PS1 games list (American store only) to see if any of the games there look good.

Alright. Thanks for the suggestion you two. I'll definitely keep those in mind.

I also have another question to ask, though it maybe a bit off topic. Do you think I should buy a hard drive to save the downloadable PSNone titles and saved game data just in case something bad happens to my PS3? I recently got a PSN card for Christmas this year and I don't really want to let it go to waste.

I can't really answer your last question, but I bought the original Rayman for PS1 on PSN, if you're looking for a challenge.

You can always re-download anything you've bought from PSN via the list of previous downloads. This applies even to content that's no longer available from PSN, provided you are using the same account you used to buy or download it in the first place. Your money won't go to waste, but your saves will if the PS3's HDD breaks.

Consider getting a USB stick to save the game saves into. Also, the PS1 games take space only a few hundred megabytes, so you will be able to save them on the stick too.

I really want to see "WipEout 2097" available on the PSN/PS3, I know "WipEout" is available, but, you know, 2097 would be a good addition as well, to be honest, it was the only PS1 game I ever enjoyed… emoji

Oh, okay then! It makes more sense that way, as long as I use the same account if anything goes with my PS3's HHD. Thanks again orava.

I'll just take one of my usb keys for my saved games until I buy a new usb keys that provides more GB. Now it comes to decide which PSOne Games I should purchase.

You should definetly check Crash, Spyro and Rayman if you're a fan of platformers, i also recommend MediEvil since you seem to like Zelda, you should go to Youtube to check out gameplay from those games and see if they are something you may enjoy playing!

Aw man! I should have purchased Rayman 2 and Medievil. Oh well, I guess I'll purchase those next when I get another PSN Card.

I've so far got Spyro 2, Crash 3 and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. I've begin playing Spyro 2 today and it's an unique and pretty fun platformer. Plus it is the 2nd game franchise that I had tried from developers Insomniac Games.

I'm sure I'll give the other two games a try whenever I get the chance to play them.
