Thread: Games Most Similar to R&C

Hey guys, this is my first time on this forum and as an introduction, I'd like to say that I'm an avid R&C fan that has played every single game since my childhood.

I found this forum because I was trying to find a game that is even remotely like R&C because I'm craving my fix and replaying one of the games or anxiously waiting for the next isn't going to cut it.

So….any suggestions? Particularly a game that is relatively open world (meaning can travel to different areas), has the unique mechanic of upgrading weapons, armor, ships, etc. I know there are probably a bunch of these, but I would rather have the opinion of fellow R&C aficionados for those few actual worthy R&C-like games.

It'd be a great help. Thanks.

I think I'm gonna go with StarFox Assault on the Nintendo GameCube. Its one of my all time favorite video games and at some points its similar to R&C. You can't upgrate weapons, but there are different ones you can find each level. I can explain, but I think its better to give you some spoilerfree vids.

Well I'm going to go ahead and point out the obvious.

Jak and Daxter. There I said it. If you have somehow resisted these games all this time, you should give them a go. They are harder than Ratchet & Clank games, but the stories and characters are just as good. And the games are very open world.

The first game is very much about adventuring and platforming.
The second has up to 4 guns, and plenty of gun-shooting and platforming. But it's all in the future.
The third has up to 12 guns and much better races and worlds and stuff.

You can get them all in the Trilogy/Collection for PS3 / PS Vita.

Besides R&C and J&D, the only other games I can think of would be Rayman 2 and Rayman 3. You can get Rayman 2 for every platform, and Rayman 3 for PS2, PS3 and a bunch of Nintendo consoles.

If you don't mind realistic-ish games you could try inFamous. In inFamous you play as a human with electrical powers. You can get experience and improve on your power or buy new abilities. It's pretty fun to play once you get the hang of it. And it's a sandbox game like GTA or any RPG game. There's pretty insane platforming too.

inFamous might not be your thing, but then again it might just be your thing. I'd recommend hiring it out or looking at a bunch of videos.

Oh and welcome! If you wish to hang around the forums and stuff you should introduce yourself here: http://en.ratchet-galaxy.com/thread-1248.php

Always great meeting new fans of the series!

I have to say that I've given Jak many chances, but I just can't get in love with the series.

Just as Ratchetruler said, Jak is most similar to Ratchet. From a small family of PS platformers ypu could also check out Sly Cooper series. It's not as advanced as Ratchet & Jak, but is also very fun.

I actually like the Sly trilogy better than the Ratchet trilogy on PS2.

Well, in terms of gameplay I enjoyed the whole Sly trilogy more than R&C 2 and 3, but first Ratchet & Clank is better than all Sly's so far. It's sure the most open world Ratchet, full of different tasks on all planets and full of gadgets (about wich Insomniac Games forgot in favor of even more crazy weapons). Even without aiming and weapon select menu pause, it's at least in the best three R&C games ever. But back to Sly, those games sure had better plot back in the PS2 times (Thieves in Time ruined everything emoji ) - it was much deeper and suprising than "simple Ratchet & Clank" (of course Ratchet & Clank 3 is more hillarious emoji ). Now the roles reversed…

I expected Thieves in Time to kind of 'conclude' everything.

Sly 3 ended like an actual video game ending, then they get Sly out of his happy life give us an open ending.

I really like Ratchet 1, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you. The Slys are better imo and its maybe somewhere at the bottom of my 'top-Ratchet & Clank list'
