Thread: Really Random thread

I just like U3 more because it was so pretty, and the locations were amazing, and everything was really varied, and the lighting was great, and the graphics were awesome, and there was that ship, and the water looked cool, and the plane caught on fire, plus a million other things solely linked to the game looking stunning.

The characters had pretty cool senses of humor, but the game never really gave me much of a chance to come to get really invested in them. I guess this is all because I always compare Uncharted to inFamous (I played them at about the same times) and of course we all know who wins for awesome characters and stories out of those two series!

inFamous doesn't just make me love or hate the characters because they might do heroic or villainous thing in cutscenes or whatever, but because I come to understand them, and believe that they really are human. The games are also not predictable, which is a bonus.

I'm yet to play the first 2 inFamous games. Like I mentioned earlier, the they only released in Dutch and French here. It'll take some time to aquire them. Especially now that my backlog is a little.. on the long side.

We'll you'll want to go onto whatever online store you can get your hands on over there and import the collection or something for (probably) quite cheap.

I would bump them up to #1 must-play games if I were you. But be prepared for the first inFamous game to not blow you away. Some people don't love that game, but the ending will make it all worth it and make you put inFamous 2 in the machine before you can even eject the first disc.

I've got a fascinating backlog:

Dragon Age: Inquisition, PS4
Mass Effect 3: Special Edition, Wii U
Beyond: Two Souls, PS3
Aliens VS Predator, PS3
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, PS3
New Super Mario Bros. U, Wii U
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, PC
Alpha Protocol, PS3
Deux Ex: Human Evolution, PS3
Space Marine, PS3

I wanna beat these first, before I get inFamous. For some reason it isn't that high on my wishlist. I think I might even get Second Son first..

Seriously, get inFamous 1, 2 then Second Son. It isn't hugely important, but that order definitely makes a lot more sense.

Kinda like how playing Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, 4 and then Peace Walker has a better flow than the more chronologically correct 3, PW, 2, 4.

The last thing you want is to get all into Second Son, only to rewind the gameplay, graphics, story and character quality for the first and second games. (although the first game does these things really well, inFamous 2 does them a fair bit better in every way, and Second Son does most of them better, but sacrifices the darker and deeper stories for a nice lighter spin on things.

Second Son Spoiler

Except that Second Son on evil gets a fair bit depressing (in proper inFamous style) at the end

Thought you were gonna say something like that. I mostly want SS first because

1. I've just played First Light, which I really liked. And I'd like to know what happens next
2. Someone already spoiled the ending of inFamous 2 for me.. Because of that the excitement for 1 and 2 is just.. not there.

Okay, well there are still surprises to come at the end in inFamous 1 and the journey toward the end of inFamous 2 is pretty great.

Wait a moment, full length inFamous games all have 2 endings. Did this monster spoil them both?

Yeah, you actually did. You didn't use a spoiler tag 1 year ago. emoji

But don't worry, I'm going to play them… one day.

I knew it was him!

I do remember him spoiling something big for someone I felt sorry for afterwards.

To think that we were the same person all along… makes me sick to my core.

EDIT: But seriously, I was actually going to ask if it was me who spoiled it, sorry 'bout that. As a safety precaution, now I put everything spoilery into spoiler tags, they do more good than harm if used correctly.

It's okay. I've had worse. I was going to play Heavy Rain and was talking about it with a friend. He almost spoiled the 'revelation' when I said ''Hey man, stop right there. I don't wanna know it yet''. When some stranger comes to me like ''Yeah, this and that''. I haven't played the game since. :/

I know the games are about their journey and I often replay games which stories I know word for word. But for a first time there's always bridge I need to get over when something's spoiled. For now inFamous' bridge is still closed down.

It's kind of funny that I'm responsible for making you not want to play a game I would like you to play. That's a fair bit of irony for ya.

I get what you mean though, having the end of a game spoiled can change the first impressions of the game drastically, which are the most important impressions.

If I say another word about inFamous it's going to be receiving far more hype that it really deserves, so I'll simply say that while I may have spoiled the end of the second game, it does have 2 very different endings, and there are plenty of story things that might shock you through the duration of inFamous 1 and 2 (including the finale of the first game).

I think you are probably right to put it behind all those other games, that way when you get around to finally playing it there will be very little hype or anticipation (when I first played the games I had no expectations), and maybe any plot information you currently know might have faded slightly, and catch you by surprise.

On a related note: First impressions are important, and when I come across an awesome game I expect to suck, it will be incredible. But if I know a fair bit about the story beforehand it isn't nearly as awesome. Like how in the early days R&C games were such a surprise, I would play them not knowing what could possibly happen. All I would know is that there will be Ratchet and Clank in the game, and I will probably play as Ratchet. Now I watch trailers, analyse screenshots, listen to developer posts, and all that stuff before playing the game. This leaves little room for surprises.

I'm trying to pry myself away for spoiling games before they release with this information, but in most cases I can't do it. So let's hope we get kept in the dark about games more in the future emoji

tl;dr: Words 'n' stuff

Thanks for your insight. In the mean time I know what games I do and don't like. So quick look at a teaser trailer is enough for me. Otherwise a name of the developer is more than enough without even looking at the game. Usually I watch the first few teasters and trailers. Then go in completely blind and watch the trailers afterwards. And yeah, usually they spoil a bunch. Like movie trailers, sometimes the entire movie is in the trailer. More often the final frame of that same movie is in the trailer!

For me, soundtracks can also affect my love of a game. Ace Combat X for instance. The storyline isn't as deep as Ace Combat 5 and Zero, but the soundtracks always fit in the atmosphere, which makes me enjoy the levels (I actually dislike the soundtrack for Mission 9B and 14B, though)

To be fair, Second Son already kind of spoils the good ending to Infamous 2.

"Why am I not playing as Cole in this game?"

Anyway, I'd approach Infamous 1 with caution. Despite being released in 2009, it does have that generation transition feel that UC1 and ToD have. I'd say Sly 2 and 3 are a tad more polished than it.
It will also be kinda boring in the first third as you don't have any powers yet. The thing I miss the most when starting a new game is the ability to grind on rails.

Infamous 2 is a lot better, in fact it's probably my favourite game of 2011. The story's better, the graphics are better, the gameplay is better, the powers are awesome and being able to transfer your Infamous 1 save file was pretty cool despite not really making sense in the context of the story. Hell, I'd say it's better than Second Son, even if I haven't played it properly yet.
And don't worry about spoilers, there are two endings that VASTLY differ from each other (in other words, don't expect ME3).
Not like it matters anyway, my love for Infamous comes from the gameplay and all the different powers you can use to bring the house down.

Also Evil Cole is best Cole!

…don't expect ME3

Oh, that's cute
