Quest for Booty is all about finding him, still.
Games with Clank as an afterthought: Deadlocked, All 4 One, and Full Frontal Assault. Say what you want about GC QFB and ITN, but Clank's only a secondary character in Spinoff titles.

That's kind of like saying Princess Peach is a primary character in the Super Mario games, though.
I'd say the reason Clank no longer has a more prominent role is because of the introduction of more recurring characters. Back in R&C1 and 2, most of the characters were simply one-offs who appeared once or twice throughout the game, thus most of the cutscenes focused on the interactions between Ratchet and Clank.
With the introduction of the Q-Force, most of the cutscenes focused more on Ratchet's interaction with other members of the Q-Force and not so much Clank. Heck, there's more interaction between Ratchet and Klunk than there is between Ratchet and Clank.
This was also the case for ToD in which instead of members of the Q-Force we get Talwyn and her crew. The only reason Clank is even relevant in ToD is because of the Zoni, and even then, if you didn't know what was going on, the Zoni could simply be GrummelNet's response to the GadgeBots.
Then, after the Zoni plot was resolved in ACiT, he's demoted to cheesy one-liners during gameplay and a few expository lines here and there.

Except Mario doesn't really add anything to Peach' kidnapping. In QfB it's done right, because they give you hints about Clank and the dialogue in written to make the player want to find where Clank has gone. You care for Clank, in Mario… you couldn't care less for Peach.
And for the interaction, quality over quantity. Clank and Ratchet are a duo, at this point we know that. So the fact they're not on screen all the time, is something they can get away with.
But the movie… it's probably going to be full scale Ratchet and Clank. Ratchet will take the lead, I'm almost certain of that. But Clank will certainly be there, not as an afterthought.

Well, since it says that Clank knows Drek's evil plans, I guess he'll play an important role.

For the first act or so.
After that he will most likely be dropped in favor of the new characters.

Best case senario, Clank almost dies at the end of the movie, and Ratchet has to fix him. Then they make up (assuming they broke up in the first place) and everyone loves him again.

Swoon!

Elaris looks even more creepy than Drek… I am getting worried about the number of human-like characters, especially since they are making them more human-like than ever (that's what bugs me about Qwark….

Something tells me Ratchet will be the only character with fur or any other distinct traits… The movie seems to embrace the idea that: "Besides the lombaxes the universe is full of humanoid species and the only things that tell them apart are the different skin colors and oddly shaped heads". Either they got really lazy and cheap at modeling/animating or they simply ran out of imagination…
~~EXAMS~~
I really hate how they handeled Qwark… He was always humanoid, but now… Ugh, it's like he's gone through a plastic surgery.

Maybe they just ran out of ideas.
