I hate it when things can easily be canon and get non-canonized. I mean all of the Old Republic stories were made after the original trilogy. So there's no reason for them to feel caged.

I feel like it's just not to create conflict with past stuff.
They may want to use stuff like characters or events from the expanded universe but in a different way
The only thing they could do to not cause conflict would be to make the expanded universe non-canon.
Personally I don't mind the change. It stream lines the story for people trying to get into Star Wars.
Also I'm pretty sure the 2D Clone Wars cartoon is still canon.
(Well, I can't really judge yet since the movie is months away from it's release. Yet I have to admit I would appreciatre it if Disney left the Old Republic era Expanded Universe alone.)

That was the only thing that bugged me about the trailer (not even the soccer droid!) why do inquisters have convoluted lightsabers?
That Droid was pretty cute.
I think this type of Lightsaber was made to add something new to the fighting scenes. Like the double sides Lightsaber Darth Maul had. This cross-shaped sabre might not look as threatening, but I think it will cause some wicked defensive manouvres.
Maybe. I like how the ribbons pulsate throughout the lightsaber.
I'm super pumped for what appears to be rogue squadron. Who's with me?
