Thread: Scary Moments in E-rated games

Deleted user

Were there any moments in E-rated titles that kind of creep you out?

Some E-rated games consists a few moments that could scare you (especially when you are a little kid), whether it was an enemy that popped out of nowhere or the music that would play in the background.

Name your scary moments in non-scary or non-M-rated games here.

I know one of them when I was playing toasty in Spyro 1 I used to be scared of thoese dogs where you have to flame them twice to die.

I was scared, when I was very young, of The haunted house in Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time and I was scared of the opening scene for Crash Bandicoot, I guess because it was dark. Now, this doesn't count, cause it was T for teens, The Natures Mysterys cutscene in Up Your Arsenal I was also scared of.

In Banjo-Tooie, when facing Mumbo's evil robot clone, for the first time I saw him, I thought it was Mumbo, but when he attacked Banjo and his eyes turn red and speak in a weird robotic voice, that really scared the crap out of me! and I was not expected that to happen.

Like always, it seems I have a big list for these kind of threads. emoji

I'll just name a few that comes in my head.

Well I know one thing for sure, that there were quite a few creepy moments in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Which were…

1. Some of the enemies in this game.

Dead Hand

The only way to get this monster appear is to have the hands (in the background from the image above) grab you. I just find Dead Hand's moving gesture to be a little disturbing.

Do I really need to say anything about these enemies? These guys will creep the heck out of you. They make eerie moaning sounds, they will freeze you if they stare at you and will attack you in a really inappropriate manner. Luckily, there is a way to stop these guys, but no matter what, I still find them creepy.

They're not entirely that terrifying, but it's when they grab you from the ceiling is what makes them scary.

I could name a few more enemies, but that could be almost all the enemies from the game.

2. The Shadow Temple and From the Bottom of the Well Dungeon

From all the Temples that you need to go to, I find the Shadow Temple to be the creepiest temple/dungeon to go to. It has eerie music that gives you goosebumps, there are a lot of creepy enemies in the Temple (like the ones I've mentioned earlier) and just a creepy set up with blades and creepy statues. It's also my least favourite Temple from the game (not just because it's scary, but also annoying too).

As for the From the Bottom of the Well dungeon, it's basically the same as the Shadow Temple, but with a round about layout and you play as Young Link.

3. When Stalchilds appeared in Hyrule Fields at night as a Child

It's not the enemies that scares me, it's how they appeared is what startled me about them. They don't scare me that much these days compared to when I was a kid.

You could say that Majora's Mask was a creepier Zelda game than Ocarina of Time and I would agree on that argument too, but since I've began playing Majora's Mask a few years ago, I couldn't find moments that scared the heck out of me, except maybe a few. (Which I might mention those moments later).

Also, who ever played Super Mario 64, did any of you guys find this moment to be scary? Once you get close to the piano, it becomes a Man Eating Instrument! AHHHHHHH! emoji

I get scared when you get the game over scene in Luigi Haunted Mansion.

Usually most Game Over Screens in many video games (especially the older games) can give you a shiver down your spine, depending on how they are presented. I've never seen the Game Over screen for Luigi's Haunted Mansion, so I cannot really say that much about it. Although, I can point out some other Game Over Screens that can scare you quite a bit.

For some odd reason I found the Game Over Screen from Donkey Kong Country to be scary a bit. I don't really know what it was, but I believe it was seeing Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong all beaten up while depressing music was being played in the background made me felt sorry for them… or something like that.

Although I haven't played this game, but the Game Over Screen from Donkey Kong Country 3 can be pretty scary to watch. Even more creepy than the one from Donkey Kong Country.

Even though I am not a fan of Crash Bandicoot, but did anyone find Cortex's laugh in the Crash Bandicoot 2 Game Over screen scary?

Rayman 3, i was at the place after oyu've defeated that witch, that place was as creepy as emoji , strange noises, feeling you were being watched, not realy what i was expecting after a boss fight emoji

I peed myself when i was 6 at the chomping piano from M64. LOL… and those deadhands? I peed myself just now.

I used to find the Game Over screen in Donkey Kong Country 2 to be a bit sad and disturbing. But when I was little, that screen scared the heck out of me.

I don't think the older members would be disturbed, but maybe younger members like myself may be disturbed.

At first it may not seem disturbing, but when the screen turns bloody red, that's what may be disturbing(in my thoughts).

I found it a little disturbing, and im 11, so yeah… I was thinking it wasnt that bad until the bloody red part. its just one of those things where you dont know why it freaks you out! like one time i got scared in a pokemon game, platinum,

where Cyrus the Team Galactic leader got pulled into the portal of shadows by giratina and you entered the distortion world

i know being scared of a pokemon game is childish- but it wasnt all that scary- it was just… chilling?

I don't think it's that childish. If only that moment gave you chills once, then there is a reason why you should be afraid of it. Once you've played the game many times, it doesn't seem that scary than before. I felt that way when I played Zelda: Ocarina of Time when I was 11 (back in 1999), but playing the game so many times doesn't seem that scary to complete anymore.

You might find this funny, but I was pretty scared of the laughing dog from Duck Hunt. The sound of his laugh was just too eerie for my 3 year old ears at that time. emoji

And speaking of Zelda, I'll mention the moments in Majora's Mask that kind of startled me easily.

The Moon
User image

Once you see the moon's face for the first time, it will startle you a bit. It's even more creepy seeing the moon in extreme close on the final day since in the game you have 72 hours to save Clock Town from being crushed from the moon.

Your Elegy of Emptiness Statue
User image

Once you learn the Elegy of Emptiness song, you leave out a statue of yourself that represents your dark inner self (not sure if that is correct, but it's somewhere close to that). In results, you get a statue with a creepy, yet disgusting face.

Pamela's Father as a Gibdo

Once you head inside the Music House and go to the basement, The closet door with rapidly open with Pamela's father as a monster inside the closet. It sometimes freaks me out because that cutscene just appears right away when you head to the closet.

At 00:26, that's when the scene appears.

Tipsy you just gave me all the reasons to never play zelda ever again. Deadhand freaked me out most- how its stub wrists are tainted with blood and that freaky grin…

Well, guess who's having some nightmares tonight? emoji

I can't believe these creators can get away with putting this creepy stuff in Rated E games. That moon scares the bananas out of me.

The Dead Hand and Redead enemies are like enemies in an E-Rated version of Resident Evil(don't know why emoji )

I HATE THOSE DOGS! theyre sorta scary AND are a pain to defeat.

OOPS! another thing… from pokemon… I got SO scared at the music that would play in pokemon diamond, pearl, or platinum when youd be in old Chateu or Spring Path- but most of all when your in spring cave and reading the sign behind giratina that says:

this is… where life has begun… and where life has faded… where two dimensions overlap…

and when in old chatue where youd see the ghosts in the room next to you behind the wall,

and where you see that purple picture with the red eyes that you can turn into Gengar.

anyone know what those ghosts are about?[/
