Tipsy you just gave me all the reasons to never play zelda ever again. Deadhand freaked me out most- how its stub wrists are tainted with blood and that freaky grin…
I hope that isn't your reason why you wouldn't want to play any of the Zelda games.
The Zelda franchise usually has some dark elements in their titles, like the ones I've mentioned for example, but not every Zelda game has creepy moments. Games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and even a bit of Twilight Princess would be examples of having eerie moments in the series, even though Twilight Princess is a T rated game. Some games have a more aristic or cartoony style approach like Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass, which could be titles that you might be more comfortable playing in.
Like in every game franchise out there, usually there are different styles and presentations in each game but with the same gameplay formula. Even if Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask has dark and eerie elements to the games, I still find them enjoyable. I also do believe that watching a lot of animated flicks, shows and video games with creepy moments at a young age is what made me not get scared of those kind of parts (well, most of it).
I can't believe these creators can get away with putting this creepy stuff in Rated E games. That moon scares the bananas out of me.
The Dead Hand and Redead enemies are like enemies in an E-Rated version of Resident Evil(don't know why)
When you put it that way, it does seem like the E-rated version of a horror game, except in a medieval fantasy setting.
Probably the Redeads in Twilight Princess might not scare you that much compared to the ones in OOT. They're like soldier skeletons that would hit you with their weapons rather than groping your upper body in Ocarina of Time. In Majora's Mask, they didn't seem to be that creepy since there is a mask you can wear that makes them not attack you… or make them dance in front of you.
The only thing that remains the same between the Redeads in OOT and in TP is that they will make you freeze when they stare at you.
