Thread: Scary Moments in E-rated games

Deleted user
Tipsy you just gave me all the reasons to never play zelda ever again. Deadhand freaked me out most- how its stub wrists are tainted with blood and that freaky grin…

I hope that isn't your reason why you wouldn't want to play any of the Zelda games. emoji

The Zelda franchise usually has some dark elements in their titles, like the ones I've mentioned for example, but not every Zelda game has creepy moments. Games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and even a bit of Twilight Princess would be examples of having eerie moments in the series, even though Twilight Princess is a T rated game. Some games have a more aristic or cartoony style approach like Wind Waker or Phantom Hourglass, which could be titles that you might be more comfortable playing in.

Like in every game franchise out there, usually there are different styles and presentations in each game but with the same gameplay formula. Even if Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask has dark and eerie elements to the games, I still find them enjoyable. I also do believe that watching a lot of animated flicks, shows and video games with creepy moments at a young age is what made me not get scared of those kind of parts (well, most of it).

I can't believe these creators can get away with putting this creepy stuff in Rated E games. That moon scares the bananas out of me.

The Dead Hand and Redead enemies are like enemies in an E-Rated version of Resident Evil(don't know why emoji )

emoji When you put it that way, it does seem like the E-rated version of a horror game, except in a medieval fantasy setting.

Probably the Redeads in Twilight Princess might not scare you that much compared to the ones in OOT. They're like soldier skeletons that would hit you with their weapons rather than groping your upper body in Ocarina of Time. In Majora's Mask, they didn't seem to be that creepy since there is a mask you can wear that makes them not attack you… or make them dance in front of you. emoji

The only thing that remains the same between the Redeads in OOT and in TP is that they will make you freeze when they stare at you.

After you've played Dead space, you aren't afraid of anything, well thats what i've heard

Even though I am not a fan of Crash Bandicoot, but did anyone find Cortex's laugh in the Crash Bandicoot 2 Game Over screen scary?

You know what?I actually did find his laugh scary.Do those creators think the kids playing this game will be happy when they hear that?

Well this might sound pathetic, but in R&C:TOD I found those giant long roach like things to be scary (mostly creepy) but I don't like how they sometimes sneak up behind you, or how they keep crawling out >.<

And in ACIT tetramites from krell canyon were also kinda creepy (specially the music that plays) emoji

Speaking of scary things in R&C, in Size Matters the Crabs on Pokitaru, weren't creepy, but if you return to Pokitaru before challenge mode, one of the crabs (after the cave bit) was giant, like five times bigger than Ratchet, it still only took one hit to kill, but a low res crab blown up ten times is pretty scary.! emoji

I couldn't find a good picture from it, but the part in The Secret of Monkey Island where you go to hell is pretty freaky, im kinda cheating since it's not really scary and it's from an e+10 game but still it's really freaky emoji emoji

Those centipede like creatures in TOD can startle you out of no where. They just pop out and BOOM! Try to attack you. In other words, I wasn't too fond by those enemies either.

As for the tetramites, I could see where you're getting at. The music that plays when they appear did had an eerie intense vibe to those moments, but I found it quite amusing than scary since I am used to these kind of things in videogames. If I was maybe younger like 10 for example, maybe I would have found it scary.

I don't know if this counts since the game I am mentioning here isn't even out yet. But anyways, I thought the concept drawings and art for the game Epic Mickey were pretty creepy to see when the game was first announced.

Here are a few Examples…

Seeing the game design now doesn't look creepy at all compared to their process work, even if they want to keep at least some dark elements in the title, just like in the old Mickey/Disney cartoon shorts.

Minecraft, the fact that a creeper, waiting to blow up your hard earned gold, iron, diamonds, and your constructions is already enough to make you paranoia.
The random creepy cave sounds freak me out every time, and then you have the ninja skeletons (not sure if E-rated tough, Minecraft is INDEV)

This video done by peanut3432 and joshscrocher lists down the top 15 disturbing bosses in videogames. Sure there are some choices that are from Rated-M titles, but most of them are from E-T rated games.

WARNING! These choices in the video may disturb you… or not. emoji

i can definetely say that Deadhand is pretty scary, the way he does that grotesque movement were his neck and hand wobble in a snake-like motion makes me get a slight shiver down my spine. XD

Does anyone here thought the incorrect ending to Kirby 64 was kind of disturbing?

Possessed Evil Face, here we come! emoji

When I'm playing Call of Duty: Black ops, the person who gets 11 kill streaks calls on the attack dogs! at that moment, I'm just running for my life, trying not to be killed by vicious blood thirsty attack dogs! Once I had 4 dogs closing in on me! but I died eventually emoji

I don't think CoD is E (I think that's like PG)

and way to go, you've reawakened a 1 year old thread! (I'm just kidding, It's not really encouraged)
