Indeed. But they are kinda essential to the story, like Fuse. Where they are collectables.
That's the fun, you're encouraged to look for them to understand the story better or learn about Vendra's past.

I think he realized it was already used to send Cragmites away, then bring them back, then send them back again and then to send back the Nethers… not to mention the low-rent Dimensinator wich brought them into Ratchet's dimension. So far, universe didn't break apart, so what could possibly go wrong? We'll find out - on PS4
