I am very impressed with what you and your team have been up to HeatherGrace! You should be very proud of it. It sure makes me wish I could actually study game development in NZ and work as an intern for a studio. Alas there is no such school (well there is a design school, but that's not what I'm after), or studio… well very very few anyway… and if I wanted to work for one I'd have to move a great distance from home.

Thanks, man! I'm incredibly happy with it and I can't believe how far I've come in 3 years. I'm lucky to be in Holland, the gaming industry is incredibly big compared to other countries. There's Guerilla (Killzone) and Triumph (Overlord, Age of Wonders). But there's a shardston of smaller companies too. You have to dig a little, but you're sure to find something that suits you.
It's a shame NZ isn't up to date yet. But someone has to start it, perhaps it could be you!emoji

I wish you all the best with the release of this game. I'm guessing it will be available for PC and Mac, and you won't have any information on other distribution mediums, release dates, or pricing?

I'm… sorry, no. It's all ''classified'' and nothing is certain. But if you like, I can post an update when I can.

You just made that to prove the strange similiarities od those characters, right? emoji

It's the legs, isn't it?

I was about to comment on that picture to add that I found the yellow Hiro legs were the one thing that stuck out a fair bit. Maybe it's mostly because Ratchet has never (officially) worn shorts.

I also expected the information to be "classified", this early in development I'm sure a lot of that information isn't set it stone… or if it is it could change and that could harm the project… someday I'll break into the NZ game industry, one way or another. I just have to be patient and motivated.

Exactly, you'd make a great game designer. emoji

That's nice and all, but I just picked up on that from my experience as a consumer.

Although that knowledge is useful to have, knowledge is nothing without abilities. And I still have a way to go before I get on making proper games of my own emoji

Patience and motivation, my friend. Many people lack.

You were working on ArrowBot, yes? As a programmer I assume. The Unreal Engine 4 is free now, if you like you can play arround with it for a bit. Maybe get yourself 3D modeling software from here:

http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all

Accounts are free to make and you get the full official version of any Autodesk software you like. I recommend Maya and/or 3DS Max and Mudbox (for sculpting). If you really want to make this your future, you could study something in programming or anything that resembles it slightly. In your free time you can train for what you really want and start as a freelancer.
There are several websites for freelancers and you can do all your work right from NZ.

Thanks for the advice. I am a programmer at my core, and I approach every problem with a cold and calculated solution… it is for this reason I will never create a game starring a human protagonist emoji

Of course I need to know a lot about graphics design though, but I don't think I can do 3D. I think I would like to try my hand at 2D some more. It's easier for me to design 2D stuff (that never works) and code in 2D environments (that usually works).

I see. Ever worked with Unity? You should be able to make fun 2D games with it. I'm not sure, but I heard whispers that Untiy 5 will be free as well. You could even use some placeholder blocks, just to get the hang of it.

Was ArrowBot part of your study or did you do it for fun with some friends?

Everybody can do 3D, its not too complicate. emoji

I just started 3D three months ago, but i don't have any amazing realization to show actually, because i'm just a beginner. emoji But i try to make a reproduction of that abandoned weapon coming from Deadlocked.

Nice! Are you still moddeling or working on the unwrap/textures?

Actually i just modeling , i will work with the textures later.

That's good, unwrapping and texturing can come later. When you find yourself at the point you want to start learning how to unwrap, message me? I know an awesome tool that will speed things up, works way better than Maya's own unwrap tool. Are you using Maya?

And.. I have a question for you. Totally different subject, but I'm hoping you know.

This is a French novel:

This is a novel like, pretty much, every other country in the world:

As you can see the spine is upside down compared to other countries:

I've always wondered why it's like that. Same thing with DVDs and BluRays. Maybe there's no reason, but I'm still curious.emoji

Noted, thank you ! emoji
I'm not using Maya, i use Blender, because it is free and very complete.

For the novels, i don't know why they do this. emoji

I've never used Blender.. not sure how unwrapping works there. The tool I use requires an 'OBJ.' file. But according to Google, that shouldn't be a problem with Blender.

Thanks anyway, I'm probably never going to find out. emoji

I've used both Maya and Blender, and I can say Blender only does 80% of what Maya can do.

Do you use the free version of Maya ?
