MGS4 could be a good game to start with then.

Yes, you'd be spoiling most of the other games' story for you, but it's the only game in the series where you can do a proper Uncharted-esque run. Especially when you get a reward for getting 60 weapons. The only thing I'd worry about is Act 3, as it is strictly stealth (hell, even I don't like that one).

Although, MGS3 has a VERY slow start. Once you're out of the cave is where I'd say it's a fantastic game. I initially hated MGS3 because, like you, I was used to fast paced games like Uncharted. It also didn't help that I started playing it during my Uncharted 3 Multiplayer high.
I just watched some videos on YouTube seeing proper players playing the game and techiing me it's basic mechanics and tactics and I finally became good at it and it became one of my favourite games of all time.

The map had very little variety. In all the other games the progression just seemed to flow a lot nicer… for me at least.

Also, the fact that they had to take out more than 50% of the cutscenes so they could animate Raiden's hair now makes us stare at a green screen of expposition for 15 minutes in order to get the story.

When I say MGS2 is the best, I'm mainly reffering to VR Missions and collecting Dog Tags, as going through the main game itself is just 'meh'.

MGS4 it is then, I wanted to get it anyway (Jennifer Hale = Naomi Hunter!)

And the story is no problem. I already know the plot for MGS1-4.

If it makes you feel any better, Naomi had a far better role in MGS1 than MGS4.

In MGS1 it's the same voice actor, although with a more British accent (therefore it sounds better). Except in MGS1 she has an actual story to her character! In MGS4 she just seems to be there to tell Snake how doomed he is all the time. There are no twists or anything.

I don't know about starting at MGS4 to be honest? I feel that the game drags out (mostly because of the cut-scenes) and if you want a MGS you can shoot through reasonably fast to experience a full experience, I say go for the shortest and easiest first!

MGS1 is the shortest, but it is also the most stealth focused. However it isn't normal stealth. It's more arcade-style stealth, and as long as you keep an eye on the minimap (and have the game on easy) it should just fly by.

Another big issue with starting with MGS4 is that the entire game is basically a fan-service, or nostalgia-trip for players of MGS1, that ties up the loose ends of MGS2 nicely. Without playing MGS1 it looses most of it's effect, and without playing MGS2 it will be difficult to interpret.


If you really can't play MGS1 and 2 maybe you could just skip the Solid Snake saga and move straight onto Big Boss by playing MGS3, MGS:PW and finally MGSV. These games are much much easier to play, because you can just shoot your way through them all (MGS3 is much easier in 3rd person. The original was top-down, but the remaster was in 3rd person).

I don't know about that, sometimes it gives a good explanation but other times it just ignores common sense and makes Snake look like a useless person when looking at the bigger picture. According to MGS4, Snake has done NOTHING of worthwhile during the 5 year gap between MGS2 and MGS4. What happened to the tracking device he planted on Ray? Didn't he tell Raiden to not worry about Sunny since he'd rescue her? Seems like he just sat on the Nomad being useless for 5 years.

Ah well, If ya can't play MGS1, play MGS2. If ya can't play MGS2, play MGS3. If ya can't play MGS3, play MGS4. If ya can't play MGS4, play MGS:PW. If ya can't play MGS:PW, play MGSV. If ya can't play MGSV, play Killzone: Mercenary. If you can't play Killzone: Mecenary, play inFamous: Festival of Blood. If ya can't play Ratchet & Clank: Qforce, play Jak II. If ya can't play Uncharted 4, buy another Nintendo 3DS. If ya can't buy an Xbox One, sell your PS3. If ya can't sell your PS3, then good. PS3s are valuable systems.

That doesn't make any sense. Raiden got Sunny's location after he gave EVA Big Boss' body, so it couldnt have been Snake who found out where Sunny was.

Also, she could always play MG1 on Easy, it's easier going guns blazing than being sneaky in that game.

I do get the feeling she probably won't get a good feel for how Metal Gear Solid games run from playing MG1.

And, yes I can't believe I forgot about the whole Eva thing! Yep, that about cuts Snake out of the whole thing. I was kinda just thinking about the end of MGS2. In that case, Snake has become pretty much useless after MGS2… I guess that about explains why in MGS4 he seemed so depressed and suicidal all the time.

I'm just gonna start up that demo and get MGS4. I really regret I didn't get 4 for €5 a few weeks ago now…

After further analysis I have decided I like Qwark's look in the new movie trailer over the older one (trailer). Mostly because his chin is the way it use to be! I don't see the other problems people are having with his design?

I love his design too, back to basic! (In the game too, hopefully!)

I'd like to, but you know, big family, a lot of things going on - I don't think I could occupy a TV for a whole day.
As for Qwark design - it's the only one of these three I don't like. "His chin, his chin…" Chin isn't the only thing that defines a character look - to me it's a too much 'pretty boy' Qwark. He looks like he's done a plastic surgery to himself…
