Thread: Best VGM

So, we have a Worst VGM thread, let's have a Best VGM thread.
My picks are:

Chapter 7: Dark Pit from Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xteSYHtMhFU

Acoustic guitar, how do you top an acoustic guitar?

Land of the Livid Dead: Chasing a Dream from Rayman Origins (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqmfd79bQjA

Whoever thought a western themed song would fit a graveyard full of old ladies is a freaking genius.

Dragon Roost Island from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GameCube, Wii U)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXGGvsHq6iA

How do you top an acoustic guitar? With a combination of an acoustic guitar and a flute of course.

Spagonia: Rooftop Run Day from Sonic Unleashed (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0piixxCTmo

This one's too hard to put into words.

I'd put more, but then I'd take all of your picks emoji

K, mine. I'll pick some from each series I like:

Ratchet and Clank (obviously):
Giant Clank on Quartu, first game. Just boom boom neat, if it wasn't for the intro:

Destroying the cannons (RaC)/Command centre (Rac:UYA). Pretty good balance in paces:

Jak and Daxter:
Klaww boss fight from TPL. Just epic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJS63wJjfEk
The Prison from 'Daxter'. It has pretty good pace and nice style. 'Daxter', for me, has some of the best soundtracks out there:

Crash Bandicoot:
Ruin levels from the second game. Classic CB style:

That's it.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just make the other thread worst and best VGM?

Aw mannnnn I usually can never contribute to Favorite Game/VGM conversations because I simply CANNOT narrow it down but I'll give it a shot… This won't be completely objective either since usually tracks that hold a lot of importance to me are ones I consider "best"; With that in mind prepare for me to get really descriptive and feelings-y:

- RADICAL DREAMERS - The Jewel That Cannot Be Stolen from Chrono Cross (PS1).
Honestly its one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. The sweet lullaby-esque acoustic guitar that accompanies the gentle vocals give a really melancholic feel to me, slightly sad but not overwhelmingly so.

- Always on My Mind from Kingdom Hearts (PS2).
Kingdom Hearts was extremely prevalent and influential in my adolescence and this track makes me the most emotional. Disregarding my own attachment to this track, its simply a beautiful and innocent piece on its own. Its hopeful-sounding with a touch of loss intertwined.

- Dreams of an Absolution from Sonic 2006 (XBOX 360).
The synthesized padding in this song is SO good. This song is extremely catchy and gives me chills every time I hear it, especially once the chorus kicks in for the third time and the only the electronic keyboard in the background accompanies the singer.

- Fatal Fight from Xenosaga III (PS2).
I can't tell you how much I adore the strong low hum of the strings in the beginning of this song, it reminds me of the wind or the ocean right before a storm. This is my favorite boss music in video games, its really intense and does a good job of setting the mood of the battle.

- Fountain of Dreams from Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube).
Okay so the entire Melee soundtrack for me was amazing because orchestrated versions of video game music is the best thing ever IMO. But this one in particular is so good, I feel like it stands out. I really don't know what else to say without sounding redundant but it was always a dream of mine as a violinist to play this song in an orchestra!

I'll leave my list at that or else I'll never stop!

To keep it short I'll pick one of each of my favorite franchises.

StarFox Adventures - ThornTail Hollow (Night)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHifmTMyAZI

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty - Main Theme (Choir)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UusD9WFImcs

Mass Effect 2 - Suicide Mission (ME soundtrack is so amazing, this one was really hard)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTsD2FjmLsw

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time - Japan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSD-lVmWex4

Tomb Raider Legend - Main Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-uyBViwAVw

Uncharted 3 - Atlantis of the Sands
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDRxuIsGUzs

Super Mario Galaxy - Final Battle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sfr6Oy0Unzg

Sonic Unleashed - Shamar Village (Day)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ecaAuXlQxI

Now that is done, I'm gonna listen to the songs you guys posted. I'm pretty curious!

I get the feeling that this thread has already been done…

Anyway instead of listing 8 tracks from Metal Gear Solid 4 and 2 from other games I'll do my favorite per game.

10. Metal Gear 2 - Gray Fox's defeat
The first little while of this video has the music. It's 8-bit, but totally awesome!

9. Jak 3 - Stadium Ruins
Like the one from before,a nice sad track that really allows you to reflect on what awful creatures Metal Heads really are.

8. Metal Gear Solid 3 - Theme
This track is appropriate for only credits, because it sums up the entire adventure using music and magic and all that stuff.

7. Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time - The Battle For Time
Because Dr. Nefarious is awesome, right?

6. Rayman Legends - Granny's World Tour
It was a shame the level was so short, I could have played this forever.

5. Killzone 3 - Theme
Firing up Killzone for the first time and hearing this made me realise that there was more to this game than senseless violence.

4. Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Patriots
For when the climax approaches and you're outnumbered and outgunned.

3. Portal 2 - Reconstructing Science
Like Rayman, the only thing I hate about this is that I can't listen to it forever.

2. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - It Has To Be This Way
This could actually benefit with being shorter. But I forgive it, due to how awesome it is. After being let down by Metal Gear at the end, this track and the final showdown totally made up for it.

1. Ratchet & Clank: Nexus - 8-Bit Theme
We all know this is a great piece.

I would have included others like Klaww from J&D:TPL or Giant Clank from R&C1, but you guys already used them!
