They didn't really have very many scenes in ItN. And the scenes they did have were more concerned over
mourning the deaths of Cronk & Zephyr
than anything else, so it's hard to read from that game what sort of relationship they had.

Not really… In ToD we've seen Ratchet flirtring her, in QfB it was shown that their friendship is developing into something more (but hasn't yet) and then in the comics it is shown that they really got close to each other after ACiT.
You know, since they really haven't done anything with Talwyn since QfB why not just kill her off instead of Cronk and Zephyr?

Given the series is being rebooted from the beginning; Talwyn will either be entirely retconned, or will have been in the franchise from the start… Either way, it means that ItN would be her last chronological appearance, so in that case, why not have her sacrificed in order to keep Cronk & Zephyr… (or alternatively, maybe they shouldn't have killed anyone off in the first place)
