Ha, just got to watch the movie again from the comfort of my own couch. And in glorious English. Finaly!
Anyway, I'm gonna stick with my original opinion: It's a great stuffing movie… when you already love the series.
It is a piece filled with deux ex machinas for the unseeing eye, so I understand why this movie didn't do so well for the mainstream movie watcher. But as an R&C fan I can only say good things about this piece. If it were a straight to DVD release like Heavenly Sword, I think it wouldn't have received the negative reviews. Not as many anyway.
I also can't stress enough how visually stunning this movie is! I hadn't realized that the game and movie are pretty much in tandem with their beautifull visuals. If anyone ever asks me what animation has the best lighting, R&C is definitely on top of that list. Aside from that, the story is quick and simple, has lost and lost and LOTS of little refrences, funny little humorous moments and cute dialogu. So my opinion of the movie:
I'm a hardcore Ratchet and Clank fan and I grew up playing the game,I was so excited to see the movie and when I went to watch it at my local cinema a few months ago I was very disappointed ,THE MOVIE IS BASICALLY ALL THE CUTSCENES FROM THE GAME ON PS4!!!!
Yeah, I don't think it's great either. However when I first saw it in theaters, I was just fanboying out at the time thinking "THIS IS THE BEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!", then I bought it on DVD and watched it again and… yeah, it's not great.
Mainly, it's just another generic "some loser dreams big, then a thing happens and now he's as big as Kirit- uh, Jesus, then something bad happens and he's sad about it, but then gets a pep talk and fixes things and now his life is at least 50% better now" kinda movie. Forgettable story, forgettable characters, forgettable moments and to top it all off… REFERENCES! References about 80's things, because that's when the best things were made and we have to keep the past alive by saying these things exist over and over. We get it, movie, Rambo was a thing, now do something original for once! Geez, it's like a plague for animation nowadays (Lookin' at you, present day Cartoon Network. You adorable nostalgia-killers, you.)
I can't bring myself to hate this movie though. There were some things I liked about it, like the idea of Ratchet being raised by some guy (kinda like Superman) and Quark had a couple funny moments here as well. It's clearly not as bad as some critics make it out to be (A 1.6 on Rotten Tomatoes? Really?) but regardless it'll just end up in the bargain bin with all the other disappointments, no matter how shiny the case might be.
