Thread: my backup plan

So.. Is this a real thing or a fan with waaay too much time?

Unfortunately for those who liked it, this is in fact a fan with too much time on their hands. I actually made it up, and thought it would make for an interesting little game.

Here is how the website works: The Library of Babel is a place for scholars to do research, for artists and writers to seek inspiration, for anyone with curiosity or a sense of humor to reflect on the weirdness of existence - in short, it’s just like any other library. If completed, it would contain every possible combination of 1,312,000 characters, including lower case letters, space, comma, and period. Thus, it would contain every book that ever has been written, and every book that ever could be - including every play, every song, every scientific paper, every legal decision, every constitution, every piece of scripture, and so on. At present it contains all possible pages of 3200 characters, about 104677 books.

So I wasn't lying when I said this had the ending to every videogame stored within… but it also has every single possible fan-fiction ever created (or not) stored within as well.


Alas, the story I linked to you guys was of my design, and not official at all. But if there is one thing to be learned here today, is that until TJ gives us a conclusion, it can be anything we want it to be.


EDIT: It's funny, you almost make it seem like if I had put more thought into Ratchet's name you might have believed it a bit longer

Actually for the most part I am a bit unhappy at myself for the amount of excitement this generated, if only a little. I guess I didn't expect people to take it so seriously. I could have waited until April 1st for this, but the fact is that no one believes anything that happens on April the 1st anyway.

Remember to always check the source of things before trusting them right away. The internet can be a bad place for leading people on to things that are completely fake.

Well we had an interesting thread here! I'd like to wrap it all up with saying i'm going to try to write a fanfic based on the original idea I had to start this thread. Its just i've never written one before and my OCD will likely cause my anxiety to go crazy while writing this, but I can get some help for that. Ratchetruler, I will leave your ideas alone since you came up with them and stick to my original concept, but I will say, Liam does seem like a good real name for ratchet!

I come up with plots for fan-fictions all the time. The ones I remember the most clearly being this one for Ratchet & Clank, and one for a Jak and Daxter prequel. I usually don't put any effort into them though, and make them up on the spot. I also never go any further than a brief few paragraphs of the plot overview, because I don't have much interest in writing fan-fictions. For this reason, if anyone ever wants to steal my ideas for fan-fiction plots, go ahead! Because I will never use them.

Anyway, what is your idea?

Well in it I had my scenario of the lombax return, combined with Tachyon finding his way back around the same time leading to a gigantic war, eventually ending with tachyon's DEATH and the lombaxes turning fastoon back into their home planet again. I also was going to include an OC character that is based on myself into the story who will be playing a decent role as a mutual friend of the duo.

A character based as yourself who plays a "decent role as a mutual friend"? Well that's good, but I know if I threw myself into the Ratchet & Clank universe I'd basically be like the main character from "A Million Ways to Die in the West". Very out of place, and critical of everything.

I would recommend trying to exaggerate yourself, or your friends vastly so that they become far more evil or good than they otherwise would be in real life. That's how The Simpsons came into being.

Well of course he would be much different from the real me, just that he's based on me, but edited for the madness that is the ratchet and clank universe.

Eh who knows, I might just scrap this idea all together. Got a lot of stuff to do in the foreseeable future.
