Thread: Can Ratchet and Clank fans be Hypocrits?

Deleted user

Sometimes checking out what some R&C fans have to say online makes me laugh. emoji

Whenever Insomniac wants to go on a new approach with their Ratchet games, people would just criticize it right away. Let's take Ratchet: Deadlocked as one example of this discussion. The art style and dark vibe just didn't appeal to many Ratchet and Clank fans right away just because it wasn't like the previous games for the PS2. Even though Deadlocked/Gladiator is supposed to be a spin-off game with it's co-op multiplayer and robust arena gameplay.

Another example would have to be All 4 One. Holy Geez is this one game being criticized or what!?! People are hating this game right away just because of the art style is "terrible" and Ratchet doesn't look cute in this game? That's what some people said about a Crack in Time and somehow, the fans who hated the art direction in A Crack in Time are starting to like it. What the heck fans!?!

Also, fans have asked for a Ratchet multiplayer game for the PS3 for a couple of years now and here it is with All 4 One. In results, fans aren't too happy with it. What the hell!?! You asked for a multiplayer game and here it is! At least Insomniac is listening to you guys and know what you want with this franchise. People are complaining and saying "We want another future title" or "More Lombax origin back stories!" I know that everyone loves R&C for it's platforming adventure gameplay, but people are forgetting the games that are spin-offs. Which focus more on gameplay rather than having an epic story.

But that's not all. People who are fans of Ratchet and Clank or have been fans of the franchise since the first game are hating All 4 One, but somehow they are still going to buy this game anyways… What kind of logic is that? Maybe renting this game before buying the game is something I could accept, but hating a game and still buying it just seems pretty hypocritical, which doesn't make any sense at all. emoji

I'm aware that people have their own opinion on things and cannot be open to new aspects in a game franchise, but saying one thing negatively about one game and deciding to say one thing positively like "I'm still going to get this game, but still hate it anyways" is quite mind boggling. emoji

Wow that's really messed up.
Complaining about a multiplayer game you asked for? That's like being given a million dollars and complaining its not in gold bricks!
I've adored every Ratchet game insomniac's made (except size matters) and to me, complaining because "Its too different" is just kinda sad and whiny.

This could be said for any fanbase though. It doesn't matter how much you try, you can never please everyone.

DL wasn't a bad game by no means, but there was something about it I didn't care for. Don't know, it felt more like 'shoot, kill, repeat' than the platformering gameplay that was in the games before it. I felt UYA was also moving away from it, but not to the point that DL did.

But the game isn't bad, it's just one of the weaker titles in the series.

As for All4One: I can't really say anything negative about it being I love what I'm seeing so far. Playing with friends online AND offline (something I rarely see in gaming anymore), tons of weapons and wackyness like the past games and I can play as F'in Nefarious!! OF course I'm going to want this. XDD
Along this isn't the future for all games after this, I'm fine. I still think most of the series at it's roots should be a story driven single player game

And I happen to like the art direction used, and it doesn't seem like they're abandoning what they learned from the future series by the look at the new screenshots:

The characters are still expressive, the lighting and details are still there and I'm sure we'll still get a fun epic story. May not be along the lines of CiT, but it does seem like we'll get a pretty well written story with tons of humor we always get (hopefully). We may even get a few twist there or there. TJ Fixman hasn't let me down yet with the comic series and think he did a fantastic job with CiT (even if there were a few nitpicks I had with the story and what could have be handled better but heh).

But yeah, I tend to keep a positive outlook on things. Until I hear anything negative on game's release, I don't see myself not getting this.

That's pretty much true. Not everyone would be pleased right away about certain changes in a franchise.

Perhaps I decided to make this topic just because all the complaints I've been reading about All 4 One from people on other sites are just… mind boggling confusing. emoji

And I agree that the art direction in this game looks quite appealing so far. It could be one of those games that has those intriguing art styles like Okami or Zelda: Wind Waker (another game from a different franchise that was criticized just because the design of Link was very "cartoony" in results).

I think most of the whining is seen over at Insomniac's forums, and that's another reason I don't bother to post there too often :S poor Insomniac's… having to put up with reading rubbish posts from whiny fanboys/girls xD But Youtube is the worst. I always see nit-picking comments made on All 4 One videos there ._.

I'm just glad it isn't common around here emoji and people here are much more open minded.

It's a shame some fans don't just wait til the flippin' game is out before critizing it. And yeah, I remember so many were begging for Multiplayer for years! And now we get it, but fans start to whine about it? Very strange emoji well I reckon once the game comes out, the whining should start to slow down a bit. I have faith in Insomniac and TJ Fixman's writting for this one, so I'm looking very forward to its release!

I think A4O is a R&C Fans dream! Can play WITH others. Nefarious returns! But now he must work with those who he hates most in the universe to save himself emoji ha ha! If i were Ratchet i'd shoot him off a cliff! But what the people dont get is that Nefarious hates Qwark and Ratchet more than ever! But he needs them to stop this one robot! That is more powerful than himself? How scary? Why them? Well who else? And who better than the three that have defeated Nefarious multple times! And for Rathet, Clank & Qwark? Who better than the 'master of robots' to stop it? (thats Nefarious by the way) they need to work together here emoji it doesnt sound stupid to me? It sounds like what could be one of the best games yet emoji

Well my initial reaction for A4O was not good, but I quickly decided that it would indeed be worth it.

and as for the people that are saying Ratchet isn't as cute as before, I don't understand that at all, from what we've seen so far from A4O, Ratchet Clank and even Nefrious look much cuter than ever before and TheJameSka from YouTube even said that the whole game will be stupid and pointless just because Ratchet's ears aren't furry like the were in ACiT (although I realise that it IS a matter of opinion, so I'll stop about that now).

As for Deadlocked, I have mixed feelings about it, so I can't really say much.

Although, similarly to the A4O argument, everyone was saying, "there should be a game that has a crossover with Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and maybe even Sly characters" and then they announce Playstation move Heroes (formerly Heroes On The Move) and everyone thinks it looks stupid…. WHAT THE **** do some people think??

Well I actually didn't mind the concept of Heroes on the Moves at first, but my problem with the game so far is how some things are executed in the gameplay and the idea of why these characters are all together.

Some of the gameplay that has been shown so far felt like it's like a completely different game. For instance, while playing Clank in a disk ring kind of gameplay made me thought that this is a mini-game collection software. I am aware that not every gameplay is like this in HotM, but some parts does make the game have that "wand remote" force to it. I'm sure it may change up in the final product, but what I'm seeing so far is quite in low expectations.

Also, we're not seeing too much exciting information in Heroes on the Move - Oh I'm sorry, Playstation Heroes. Which by the way, changing the title from being quite potential at first into a title that is pretty vague as the final name for the game was a big mistake.

They're hasn't been too much info with All 4 One too, but by the looks of footage clips and updates that Insomniac has brought out to the public at least have a bit more potential and looks like a promising game to get. Playstation Heroes could be a hit or miss to some gamers out there.

Well sometimes fanbases can be messed up in general. We should basically ignore those who nag about simple things just because like lombaxdude said, everyone says these critical replies as a matter of opinion.

At least now the complaints of A4O have been decreased, but I still see more complaints from people online like at gamespot, ign and the most obvious one, youtube.

yeah that is very true any fan base of any game can get critical before a game even comes out although I have to confess that even I got judgemental on Ratchet's design and size (but I got over it after a while) and that awful game called "Spyro" Skylanders and I have a very good reason for that but I'll explain why in a few mintues true people shouldn't judge things before they came out but that's natural to everyone's opinion when they see what they don't like even the slightest thing is different to last time they released a game.

For example I loved the first three spyro games on the PS1 they had beautiful levels, the characters were fun and the music is awesome and after thoese games where made I go on to the GBA ones they weren't so bad but some parts were annoying but I still like them nonetheless then got the PS2 ones dispite the glitches and crashes Enter The Dragonfly has it's still a good game with good music and level designs but could have been a lot better if it wasn't so rushed A hero's Tail was fun game to play it was a pain to beat but did it in the end that is until the file was ruind =/
when I first saw the cover of the Legend of Spyro I wasn't sure about it but I decide to have a go and said to my sis who said that "it looks like crap!" that regardless of the design it different "Spyro is still Spyro" of course I too that back when I learned that he's not really spyro and the only thing that has the same part as the old spyro is the name itself but I got the other two after the first LoS

BUT when I first saw the trailer new "Spyro" game called Skylanders I was shocked and got ticked off of what I saw when I first saw the video of that "dragon" the character's names and designs were awful and when I learned that in order to play the characters is to get crappy looking toys and I was like "WTF IS THIS?!?!" however the only thing I like about the game is the level designs and the colours that's all however if people likes that trash of a game then that's fine by me as long as I don't get told to get and play the dumb thing.

My apologise that I'm been judgemental again but whenever I so much as hear the name of that game boy I'd get ranting.

Oh yeah! Right away, users on YouTube would just bash and even bash some more with any current All 4 One videos.

However, with that video you'd posted they sort of have a point about the Zoni Ray…

The weapon seemed to have no effect from those gameplay footages. I'm sure it does by slowing the enemies down, but it didn't look like it in this latest trailer.

I'm looking forward to A4O and seem to be one of few who are…? I've always been excited for new games and not once been disappointed. It's good for a game series to take different approaches and experiment, some may turn out bad and some may turn out amazing! I've been very impressed with every Ratchet game, I don't get what some fans whinge about -.-

I know this is old as #&^@, but yes.
