How about this theory:
We know that the Zoni are capable of time-travelling of their own accord and that the Clock was built because the time continuum was "wearing thin" and the Clock would maintain the timestream and the Zoni are still capable of time travel without many consequences.
So what if Sigmund makes the time-portals out of pure Zoni energy (possibly from the Zoni Ratchet has in the collector), which allows the Clock to stabilize them, as they come from an exterior source, but when the Clock itself has to alter time, it does not have enough power resources to alter time and maintain it simultaneously…The overusage of time portals (before the Clock existed) was what destroyed the Universe, soooo no?
But if the Clock is there to prevent the universe from being destroyed by time travel…?
Oh, forget it; this is all getting far too confusing!
This is the Signature Box. Writing in it means that things will appear under your posts; write as you please, for example: Why not describe the purpose of the Signature Box?
This is why people should watch BttF before trying to write a story about time travelling.

So ACiT is a project gone wrong because of team seperation and quanity over quality. A4O is IG's try to make Ratchet more fit to the violence some gamers expect nowadays and FFA tries to use the PS3 controler to it's advantage and trying to make up for it's counterpart?
Even when reading all of the post on the last page twice I can't follow.
I'm talking about my overall enjoyment of the games.
ACiT is boring and dull to me. In February I lost my 100% save file and my quest to restore it ended in Torren IV, haven't touched the game in months. If this happened in ToD I'd probably have the game at 100% by now.

ToD… While I love it's gameplay, it's the one that I think has got the most dull writing in the whole series.

I'm mainly talking about gameplay here, but I have to disagree. Tachyon was a great villain as it was basically an even more narcissistic Drek and I can't get enough of that. There were also some funny moments and said moments didn't need Qwark to make them funny *cough*ACiT*cough*
Although it's very appearent when the game makes the shift from the old writers to TJ Fixman, mainly in cinematography and overall tone.

Sure, Tachyon's a great villain, but aside from that, I find ToD just a little bit less dramatic and much less funny ACiT. Sorry to say that, but it was A4O that made me like Cronk and Zephyr. As to Qwark in ACiT, it's partly because Jim Ward seemed to be much more engaged in that game than he was in ToD…

I never really laughed at anything in ACiT actually that's a lie, Nefarious' dance was pretty funny. I never really laughed at anything in ToD either, but at least I was able to say 'Hmm, that's funny'.
Most of the humour in ACiT comes from either Qwark or the radios.
Let's just say I didn't know about the radios the fist time I played and therefore had Polaris Classic playing throughout the entire game…
And I've given my two cents on Qwark before. He should've been Ratchet's sidekick, so Qwark would be the joker and Ratchet the straight man. And the encounter with Azimuth would've been much funnier that way. As it is, he's gone for too long.

I like how A Crack in Time shows a more serious side of the series. The humor is a part of Ratchet & Clank for sure, but it's only a small one. In my eyes at least.

This sounds more apropriate.
I can see why you'd thnk that, but the fact that UYA's climax has Nefarious sarcastically accepting his defeat while Ratchet struggles with his heroic shpeech kinda contradicts your point.

I definitely liked that speech more than anything he had to say in ItN
