Thread: Naughty Dog vs. Insomniac Games

This one is the toughest for me. I kind of hoped it would not come to this.

Jak II was not that to me, while R&C2 was really good. But Jak 3 is, for me, a lot better than Jak II, and R&C3 is at about the same level as R&C2.

So what do I vote for? Well I guess because I like them both equally, I will have to give a point to the series I have enjoyed playing the most, Ratchet & Clank. So while R&C3 gets the vote, and it would seem I never once voted for a Jak game, I do indeed enjoy the Jak games a lot.

This poll is the toughest for me too. But, If I must vote for one of these games, I also choose R&C: Up Your Arsenal. Globally, I prefer this game. It incorporates new elements of gameplay not seen previously in the series, including online and offline multiplayer capabilities compared to Going Commando. Personally, it owns one of best soundtracks of R&C series, the screenplay and the characters are just hilarious and charismatics, like Nefarious.

About Jak 3, I spent less time on this game than on the third episode of R&C series. I loved the unforgiving wasteland, where survival of the fittest is the law of the land. The buggies are gorgeous, pleasurable to drive and just unforgettable. They are aesthetically sumptuous, such as the Dune Hopper, the Slam Dozer and the Sand Shark. All buggies (with the exception of the Tough Puppy) are equipped with on-board weapons, typically Submachine Guns, though in some cases (Dune Hopper, Dust Demon) use grenade launchers similar to the one seen in the plasmite RPG. They also come equipped with turbo boost technology, the reserve of which can be charged with booster pick-ups dropped by destroyed marauder buggies, as well as in certain side missions.

Sigh. This is a poll for UYA vs Jak 3, not UYA vs GC.

He might have simply been commenting on GC being worse than UYA because some people were saying the opposite.

When I think about it, UYA being short and having multiplayer that is damn-near unplayable are big negatives for me. But it still is a good game.

Yeah, same with DL. I can't believe people actually say their favorite part of the series was UYA's multiplayer! Even FFA's was better than that! (before it died)

The problem is that on PS2 you needed a special device and a good internet conection. I had neither of those things. Fortunately today most people have suitable broadband for online play, but the HD UYA multiplayer still can't be played unless you log in during one of the few peak hours of the day. I have never been lucky enough to find what hours those are, and so still I have never played a single round of the game.

I'm not too bothered though, I never enjoyed playing UYA against friends in split-screen, and I doubt I would enjoy it any more online.

I already explained why I have little interest in R&C3's multiplayer.

Yes the technical term is vocabulary :oui:

Although it's technically classed as vocabulary, swearing is not cool in places like this.

EDIT:

GC was a better RaC game in every respect except storyline (really, GC's storyline was TERRIBLE compared to UYA's)
UYA is still a great game, but not the best IMO.

I liked the second games story quite a lot. Sure I liked UYA's better, but the second game had quite interesting themes and unpredictable moments that legitimately surprised me quite a bit. Megacorp is a cool enemy, their relationship with competing companies is quite well established, and the main bad guy becomes a good guy early on, leaving no apparent baddie throughout the middle portion of the game.

The twists and turns the story make are quite well executed, and I think that it establishes itself as a much better sequel to the first game as UYA was to the second.

What is the relevance to the current topic? Well UYA looses a little bit on how I feel it was not as good a sequel as the previous game. It didn't improve on enough.

Then the PS3 games turn in a totally different direction all together.

I guess…still better than the first game's plot (not that it was bad either, but there were just too many plot holes…
