Thread: Music Score & Soundtracks from Video Games

Of course, the R&C soundtracks have always sounded incredible… Until David Bergeaud left to be replaced by Boris Salchow, I mean, the music in ACIT was okay, it's just that David B knew what to do to make it feel like a Ratchet soundtrack, make the music kind of bouncy.
Boris S went for a more cinematic approach to the soundtrack, which is good, it just didn't feel Ratchet-ey.

Well..I LOVE the Sonic series music. Heck, I even like the new Sonic games music(Dislike his new games though emoji )

I also like Spyro the Dragon 1-3 and somewhat 4 & 5, Crash Bandicoot 1-Twinsanity, Super Mario series, Ratchet & Clank series, Donkey Kong Country series and Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day Rock Solid and King of Fighters(KOF 12th doesn't count….), Tekken 1,2,3 & 5 and…GAH! I better stop their….I just….like ALOT of video game music! emoji

My favorite video game music is Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles, Tekken 2, 3 and Donkey Kong Country so far.

Now, I don't play games that much, but when I got H3: ODST the music was just…wow. Perfect for the game. Too bad they didn't make the game itself better, it has so much more potential.

And i have many more…

I'm a big fan of soundtracks and scores in general, and I especially like music from video games. It's evolved so much as a genre in a relatively short amount of time, from the simple electronic tunes to the fully orchestrated scores that were getting now, and the music itself is incredibly diverse it its styles.

I've really enjoyed the music from all the Ratchet and Clank games (I've played) I'm sure I've mentioned before, the cut scene music for A Crack In Time was amazing, Ratchet as a series has never really used thematic music, aside from the little piece of music I call "Ratchet's Theme" which was sadly absent from A Crack In Time, so it was good to hear an actual theme being used in the series and I hope it continues for future games.

Aside from Ratchet and Clank there are a few stand out tracks that I really like. Possibly my favourite piece of video game music is the Metal Gear Solid 2 main title music, this piece fits very well with the Metal Gear series. I went to the Video Games Live concert a couple of years ago and this was one of the first songs they played and to hear it performed by a live orchestra is nothing short of epic!

Another favourite of mine if the main theme to Dark Void This one was written by my absolute favourite score composer Bear McCreary who wrote the music for some of my favourite TV shows, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Eureka and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The Dark Void theme echos a lot of the work he did on Battlestar, but with a WWII feel to reflect the games setting.

I absolutely love the music from both Mass Effect games as well. It is suitably epic and really worked in the for the game setting, it's another one I got to hear performed by the live orchestra, it was quite a treat for me as I'd only just started playing Mass Effect.

I'm sure I'll time of more, but those are the three that really stick in my mind.

I've been addicted to Super Mario RPG recently and here are the following tracks that I adore from this game:

Forest Maze (the track that makes it a fanboy's wet dream fantasy.)

Booster's Theme

I could name more tracks from this game, but it would probably take forever to post.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has some of the most beautiful soundtrack in gaming, here's an example:

Crash Bandicoot 2, 3 and CTR had by far the best soundtracks I've ever heard (well, some of the tracks are a bit too xylophone-y but overall they're great). Even though I like R&C soundtracks, they are no match against those.

Some EA-made games (NHL, Burnout) had also some memorable songs, but that's because they are real songs rather than purposefully made soundtracks.

Another track that comes to my mind is the map loading theme from Battlefield 1942. It was awesome enough to be remixed in almost all of the following Battlefields.

Well I'm just gonna list the first two that pop into my head right now, the music at the start of inFamous (that plays at ground Zero, and in the Kessler fight near the end) and the music for the first part of the Kessler fight! EPIC!

The Crash Twinsanity soundtrack is interesting, being entirely a cappella. Sample.
I also like the soundtrack for the Neverhood. It catchily combines horns, drums, percussion, guitars, and vocals to create the clayen atmosphere of the game. Sample. EDIT: Its sequel Skullmonkeys contains two of the funniest songs in video games: The Little Bonus Room, and Klogg is Dead.
