Thread: Really Random thread

My friend once told me there was a game that he liked (durn it, I forgot the name) which was bought by Microsoft and eventually became Xbox exclusive while previously being multiplatform.

At least there was Namco to piss the Xbox-owner Ace Combat fans and cheer the PS-owner Ace Combat fans by releasing Infinity only for PS3

Obtaining Tomb Raider would be a strategy to get people like you (Hardcore Tomb Raider fans) to buy their system.

Except that it has the opposite effect. No Tomb Raider fan is going to purchase an Xbox One for just Rise. I'm one of the few that wants to make her hands dirty and get a used 360. I this deal, but Rise is thé upcoming game for me. I've been playing Tomb Raider for years and I'm not about to stop. But the biggest part of the community is going to leave Tomb Raider behind. Or rather: Tomb Raider is going to leave them. Even a big part of the Xbox One owners in this community refuses to get the game because it excludes 3/4 of their fellow fans.

That was probably Minecraft, Ankadewo.

No, Minecraft is still multiplatform

But M$ recently bought it.

Whoa, calm down! All those Microsoft stuff, that's what people call "business" (ah, the modern day economics!)

It's not business. It's ripping consumers off. M$ is like a little kid who lost at a video game. They're trying anything and everything to make people think they won.

Then I am still failing at seeing that.

Yep. Me too. How could I not see the bad things that they done over these times?

Tomb Raider is and has always been a multi platform game. PlayStation/PC owners are excluded from the sequel that released on their platforms. Xbox One owners don't have the advantage because they would have gotten the game anyway because it's a 3rd party franchise. In the end, every no party wins. The only reason the game is 'exclusive' is because M$ is losing to Uncharted and they don't have a game to compete. So they took the closest thing they could get, the Tomb Raider Crystal has been working on since 2012. They're not helping to make it a better game either, they just paid for (timed) exclusivity.

If you still don't get it, have a go at this. After 4 minutes.

Oh, my friend told me about that game that I previously said was bought by Microsoft (or should I say, Micro$oft?) and became Xbox exclusive. It's Dead Rising

Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things, Micro$oft.

But Windows were pretty nice

Why are you actually mad at Miscosorft? When you think about it, they haven't done much wrong with Dead Rising and Tomb Raider.

Allow me to explain, Tomb Raider and (presumably) Dead Rising have been multiplatform for the entirety of their existence. I don't know much about who rightfully owns the IPs, but lets assume it is the current developers of those franchises (at least that's how it was before Microsoft purchased them). So when the IP is sold of to a company like Microsoft, why would you blame Microsoft? MS are just buying the IP, they didn't do anything you wouldn't expect any other company to do in their place. The "traitors" are the original owners of the IPs (unless it was Microsoft to start with, in which case, by all means be mad at 'em).

I can't think of an analogy that isn't really extreme, the best one I can think of is how drug dealing works. The people that buy drugs are pretty bad, but the people who supply the drugs are the ones that should be stopped. Just like how here, the original owners of the IPs are the bad guys, for selling out in the first place… it's a pretty crappy analogy, but it was the best I could come up with on the fly.

tl;dr: The original owners of the IP are the baddies for selling out, much more so than the company buying the property (Microsoft in this case)

PS: Micro$oft want to make money just as much as $ony, it's the primary reason they exist.

And there's the case with Tomb Raider. The series was owned by Eidos, however it was developed by Core and later Crystal Dynamics. 2 companies Eidos owns. However Eidos was bought by Square Enix. Square now owns the IP, but the people that created the Tomb Raider franchise now get blamed. While it's Square Enix who sold Lara out. But. Money. Gaming is a business. But the fact you even offer to make a franchise go excluisve on the platform to join last, means you're a F** arse. And not just that, but get this:

We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities.

Lies, lies, lies. So. Many. Lies.

You mean like how the original Tomb Raider was released on PS1 and Saturn and then Sony payed Eidos to make TR2 and 3 PS1 exclusives? What about the fans and supporters that played on the Saturn? Why were they left with the short end of the stick?
